Substation Construction Manager

About the Role

Join PSD Energy as we deliver one of Victoria's largest renewable energy projects – the Horsham Solar Farm and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). We're seeking an experienced Substation Construction Manager to lead the delivery of high-voltage substation works on-site, ensuring quality, safety, and schedule are upheld to the highest standard.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee and manage the full lifecycle of substation construction, including civil works, structural steel, cable installation, HV equipment installation, earthing, and commissioning support.
• Supervise and coordinate daily activities of site crews, subcontractors, and vendors to ensure delivery to program, quality, and safety standards.
• Develop and manage detailed construction programs in collaboration with the Project Manager, ensuring alignment with engineering and procurement milestones.
• Monitor and report on progress, productivity, resourcing, and potential risks to project delivery, implementing corrective actions as needed.
• Ensure all works are executed in accordance with construction drawings, specifications, ITPs, and project QA/QC requirements.
• Lead site coordination meetings, toolbox talks, and pre-starts to ensure effective communication of daily objectives and risk controls.
• Work closely with Engineering, QA, HSE, and Commissioning teams to manage interfaces, resolve technical issues, and deliver a safe, high-quality substation.
• Ensure compliance with all WHS legislation and PSD Energy safety systems, conducting site inspections, incident investigations, and promoting a zero-harm culture.
• Manage site documentation including permits to work, inspection checklists, daily diaries, and construction records.
• Represent PSD Energy in client and stakeholder engagements on-site, including responding to technical queries and site audits.
• Support procurement planning by forecasting material requirements and tracking delivery schedules.
• Coordinate energisation planning with the commissioning and operations teams, ensuring safe isolation and test procedures are in place.
• Foster a collaborative and accountable site culture focused on delivery, safety, and continuous improvement.

About You

• Proven experience delivering HV substations (66kV+), ideally within solar or BESS projects.
• Strong leadership skills with the ability to drive program outcomes under pressure.
• Trade or tertiary qualifications in electrical, civil, or construction management.
• Solid understanding of substation construction methodologies and commissioning interface.
• Strong knowledge of WHS, environmental, and QA standards in construction.
• Ability to work in regional locations on an extended roster, as required.
