About the Role

The
Software Engineering Lead
will drive the technical vision and governance of the Department's digital products. This includes overseeing development projects, setting architectural direction, ensuring scalability, and mentoring a team of software engineers. The role also acts as a conduit between technical and business stakeholders to deliver high-quality, maintainable systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own and communicate the technical strategy for supported products, from design through BAU support.
  • Ensure scalability and maintainability of systems through development patterns, governance processes, and reviews.
  • Act as an escalation point for technical blockers and decisions.
  • Promote continuous improvement and DevOps practices.
  • Standardise technical practices across teams to deliver business outcomes.
  • Ensure compliance with government and technical frameworks.
  • Engage and collaborate with technical and business stakeholders.
  • Mentor and guide technical staff.
  • Develop and review design, architectural, and technical documentation.
  • Drive a high-performing, collaborative team culture.

Key Requirements

Essential Criteria

  1. Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills.
  2. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  3. Relevant experience in software development (
    .NET and Angular
    ).
  4. Experience supporting digital solutions across technical and business stakeholders.
  5. Experience creating design documents, guides, and architectural artefacts.

Desirable Criteria

  • Qualifications or experience supporting agile software development teams.
  • Experience designing cloud-native applications and/or migrating on-premises solutions to the cloud.
