Our Organisation

The Benevolent Society's vision is to build a just society where all Australians can live their best life. For more than 200 years we have supported people at the margins of society: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians; children, young people, and their families; older people; carers and people with disability. We are an independent, non-religious service provider which supports people to live life their way.

As part of The Benevolent Society's vision, we are strongly committed to reconciliation with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people of Australia. We remain steadfast in our commitment to promoting the economic, political, and social inclusion of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

About this role

We are seeking a compassionate and skilled professional to join our multi-disciplinary team in supporting vulnerable families through targeted early intervention services, comprehensive assessments and tailored interventions.

This role involves conducting in-depth risk and needs assessments to identify families requiring support, and delivering services that promote healthy child development, strengthen caregiver-child attachment, enhance safety, and foster meaningful connections that set up foundations that support better outcomes across the early years.

The ideal candidate will bring a deep understanding of child development, particularly social-emotional and cognitive development and the impacts of early life vulnerabilities and adverse experiences on development, attachment, learning and relationships. Working from a trauma-responsive and relational framework, you will be instrumental in driving meaningful, long-term outcomes that enhance the safety, resilience, and holistic well-being of children aged 0–12 and their families.

Duties

  • Engage children, young people, adults and/or families, using current assessment and risk minimization processes.
  • Plan, develop, facilitate and review supported playgroups, transition to school programs, Preteen programs and workshops relating to service delivery.
  • Work with clients to conduct comprehensive assessments, identify strengths and areas of risk, developing and implementing tailored support plans, and providing ongoing case management, home visits and reviews; ensuring children and young people are actively engaged throughout the process.
  • Collaborate proactively with a broad network of service providers, including government agencies, educational systems, healthcare services, general practitioners, and allied health professionals.
  • Prepare and submit child protection reports to the relevant helpline when concerns are identified, ensuring mandatory reporting obligations.
  • Facilitate home visits, review meetings, case conferences, worker and consultation meetings and ensure appropriate documentation is kept.
  • This role requires precision in record-keeping and a proactive approach to ensuring compliance with organisational protocols and reporting standards.
  • Participate in internal and sector-wide interagency meetings as needed to foster collaboration, share insights, and support coordinated service delivery.
