About the Role

The Experienced Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for stonemasonry projects, ensuring all materials, labour, and overheads are accounted for. This role supports project planning, budgeting, and contributes to business growth through effective bid management.

Key Responsibilities

• Read and interpret architectural and structural drawings to determine project scope and stone requirements.
• Understand different stone types (e.g., natural vs. engineered, limestone vs. granite) and their impact on installation and estimating.
• Prepare accurate quantity take-offs for all required materials, including stone, mortar, waterproofing, mechanical fixings (e.g., clips, pins, brackets), sealants, expansion joints, and caulking.
• Use estimating software (e.g., Bluebeam) and Excel to complete calculations, take-offs, and cost breakdowns.
• Apply appropriate pricing strategies using established rate libraries, including allowances for labour, materials, overheads, and margin.
• Prepare and issue detailed quotes and cost proposals for clients, ensuring clarity on inclusions, exclusions, and provisional sums.
• Consider construction logistics and site conditions in estimates, including access equipment (e.g., scaffolding, boom lifts) and productivity rates for stone installation.
• Liaise with suppliers to obtain quotes for stone, fixings, sealers, scaffolding, and other project materials.
• Conduct site visits as required to measure, assess scope, and identify potential risks or access issues.
• Support the use of estimating templates and checklists to ensure scopes, exclusions, and provisional sums are clearly documented.
• Communicate professionally with internal teams, clients, builders, architects, and suppliers to clarify project requirements.
• Learn and support the company's CRM system for project and client tracking.
• Attend team meetings and contribute to planning discussions and workflow management.
• Perform other related duties as required to support project and business needs.

About You

We are seeking someone with a keen eye for detail and a strong willingness to learn. You will thrive in a collaborative environment and have a background in construction, stonemasonry, or estimating.

Skills & Qualifications

• Proven experience as an Estimator within the stonemasonry or construction industry.
• Strong knowledge of stonemasonry materials, methods, and industry standards.
• Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, and engineering drawings.
• Strong numerical and analytical skills with high attention to detail.
• Effective communication and negotiation skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
• Relevant qualifications in Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or related field preferred.
• Proficiency in Bluebeam and other estimating software (or a willingness to learn).
• Excellent communication and organisational skills.
• Self-motivated with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
