This roster is 8/6/7/7 with 12-hour shifts.

About the role
Reporting to the Underground Electrical Supervisor, the Communications Technician plays a key role in maintaining and optimising the communications infrastructure that supports Ernest Henry's underground and surface operations. You will ensure all work is carried out safely, efficiently, and in compliance with site and regulatory standards, contributing directly to network reliability and operational performance.
Key responsibilities include:
- Installing, maintaining, and repairing communications systems including leaky feeder, digital two-way radios, CCTV, and fibre repeater infrastructure
- Conducting inspections, fault-finding, and preventive maintenance to ensure high network uptime
- Collaborating with IT, maintenance, and production teams to support seamless site-wide communications
- Maintaining accurate documentation and contributing to system upgrades and expansion projects
- Supporting apprentices and mentoring junior team members
- Ensuring all work meets ACMA and site standards, and participating actively in safety systems and toolbox talks
- Light vehicle and Heavy vehicle radio installs and programming
- Fibre splicing
About you
The ideal candidate is a trade-qualified technician (Communications, Electrical, or similar) with ACMA Open Cabling Registration and experience in underground mining or heavy industrial environments. You will bring strong technical skills across communications systems and a proactive approach to safety, compliance, and continuous improvement.
You must enjoy working in a collaborative team and contributing to site reliability and performance. You're comfortable interpreting network drawings and working with advanced systems such as Cisco switches, CCTV, and wireless networks. You are also keen to develop further within electrical and controls disciplines.
