Head Chef – Whittlesea Bowls Club

The Whittlesea Bowls Club is seeking an experienced and passionate Head Chef to lead our kitchen team.

Following major renovations, our club now features a 100-seat bistro/restaurant and a 150-seat function room, offering a fantastic opportunity for a culinary leader to make their mark in a thriving venue with a loyal customer base.

We offer excellent working conditions, including 5 weeks of annual leave and a competitive salary for the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead daily kitchen operations and supervise the kitchen team.
  • Maintain food and wage costs within budget.
  • Plan and prepare high-quality meals aligned with our menu standards.
  • Create innovative food concepts, special menus, and promotional offerings.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety and OH&S standards.
  • Conduct regular stocktakes and food safety audits.
  • Oversee ordering and stock control processes.
  • Ensure portion control and minimize food wastage.
  • Maintain consistency in quality and presentation across all dishes.
  • Develop prep lists, rosters, and daily task sheets.
  • Handle customer feedback and complaints in collaboration with FOH.

Skills & Attributes:

  • Proven experience in a similar Head Chef or Senior Chef role (minimum 2 years).
  • Creative, passionate about food, and takes pride in food presentation and service.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced kitchen.
  • Knowledge of food and wage cost control.
  • Strong understanding of kitchen hygiene and safety protocols.
  • Excellent planning, communication, and organisational skills.
  • Hands-on approach with the ability to train and develop staff.
  • Flexible to work days, nights, weekends, and public holidays as required.
