Our client is seeking a highly skilled Senior Data Scientist with expertise across data architecture, engineering, and applied AI to uplift our client's data capability. This role will play a key part in supporting 'data-informed diplomacy,' driving policy and program outcomes through robust data systems, analytics, and AI-powered insights.

Key responsibilities of the position:

  • Maintain and develop data systems to support our client's data-informed diplomacy objectives.

  • Scope, design, and develop relevant data sources (open-source and official).

  • Build and maintain data models in collaboration with PowerBI developers.

  • Extend and optimise ETL pipelines, data wrangling, cleaning, and syncing using Python and related tools.

  • Deliver advanced data analysis and visualisations.

  • Maintain and enhance AI tools for policy analysis, including summarisation of open-source and official material (leveraging Python, OpenAI, Azure).

  • Expand AI tools into new use cases through stakeholder engagement.

  • Ensure documentation, governance, and best-practice standards are met.

  • Provide broader data services in line with the objectives of the Southeast Asia Data Analytics Section.

What we are looking for:

  • Strong technical background with demonstrated experience in Python, R, SQL, Microsoft Excel, and AI APIs/libraries (Azure, OpenAI).

  • Proven experience working with both on-premises and cloud databases.

  • Ability to scope and deliver end-to-end data solutions, from source ingestion to modelling and visualisation.

  • Strong knowledge of data quality, integrity, and governance best practices.

  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills, with the ability to provide actionable data insights for policy outcomes.

Desirable Experience:

  • Hands-on experience with PowerBI and DAX.

  • Background in government, policy, or international relations environments where data directly informs decision-making.
