About The Opportunity
NSW Health Pathology are excited to offer a temporary full-time position as a Medical Laboratory Scientist in the Blood & Marrow Transplant Laboratory at Liverpool Hospital.
This position offers the opportunity of involvement in the rapidly expanding field of cellular therapy and is responsible for providing accurate, efficient, and relevant services especially in cryopreservation and infusion of haematopoietic progenitor cells (HPC) and to ensure the quality and timely release of laboratory results.
We are seeking a skilled and energetic Medical Laboratory Scientist with a recognised undergraduate degree in biomedical science, who possess a passion for person centred care and is familiar with cellular therapies processing, laboratory quality management policies and systems. The ideal candidate will be someone who can work independently, manage multiple tasks efficiently, and apply strong troubleshooting skills to support high-quality scientific outcomes. All applicants are required to participate in a 24/7 on call roster including weekdays, weekends, public holidays and out of hours.
In this role you will join our friendly team and assist with the processing of haematopoietic progenitor cells and immune effector cells for clinical transplantation, participate in clinical trials, product testing, quality assurance and other duties as directed by the Senior Hospital Scientist-in-charge of the department.
Liverpool Hospital's Blood & Marrow Transplant (BMT) unit is a major transplant unit in NSW carrying out over 50 transplants and over 70 cryopreservation per year. The BMT unit also participates in activities related to haematology clinical trials. The laboratory is NATA accredited and seeking FACT/JACIE International accreditation.

What You'll Be Doing
Responsible for administrative operations of the cellular therapy Laboratory and compliance with the NPAAC Guidelines, including operation of the laboratory, review of all procedures and tests performed and to act accordingly when there is a procedure/method violation. Perform procedures such as processing and cryopreservation of haematopoietic progenitor cells and immune effector cells for autologous & allogeneic transplants for standard of care and clinical trial.

- Bachelor Degree or higher degree in Science/Medical Laboratory Science or an equivalent qualification, with subjects relevant to pathology from a recognised tertiary institution
- Demonstrated experience in aseptic cell processing for human peripheral blood stem cells, including cryopreservation and control rate freezing, or research experience with cell culturing techniques and understanding of flow cytometry.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the delivery of pathology services relevant to the laboratory, including use of Laboratory Information Systems, Patient Systems and Quality Control Systems and computer programs such as Microsoft Office suite
- Customer focused approach displaying well-developed interpersonal skills and good oral and written communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with customers, patients and clinical and laboratory staff, along with report writing skills, statistical evaluation of scientific data and the ability to effectively communicate policies and procedures
- Ability to work in a responsible and efficient manner and to manage competing priorities to meet deadlines with a willingness to participate in a 24/7 on call roster including weekdays, weekends, public holidays and out of hours.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment while working autonomously to deliver results within specified timeframes and contribute to a range of diagnostic skills relevant to the laboratory
- Display initiative, problem solving and analytical skills including an ability to apply established principles in a pathology laboratory and investigate and resolve general and complex issues within the laboratory environment
- Sound understanding of legislation, policies and requirements that impact the laboratory environment including work health and safety and privacy requirements
