Your new role:

As a Dental Assistant with Metro South Health, you will play a vital role in supporting safe, high-quality dental care for patients of all ages. You'll work closely with dentists and the broader oral health team to prepare equipment, provide four-handed dentistry, assist with patient comfort, and maintain a high standard of infection control and surgery readiness.

This is a dynamic role that offers variety, teamwork, and the opportunity to contribute to quality improvement and patient-focused service delivery.

In this role, you will:

  • Prepare instruments, equipment, and materials for a variety of dental procedures
  • Provide four-handed chair-side assistance and support patient wellbeing
  • Assist in preventing, identifying, and managing medical emergencies
  • Maintain strict infection control, sterilisation, and surgery cleaning protocols
  • Monitor equipment, steriliser performance, and quality assurance processes
  • Use or learn ISOH, electronic dental records, and dental terminology
  • Work across multiple Metro South Health facilities as required

About you:

You are an organised, proactive, and team-focused dental assistant who takes pride in delivering excellent patient care. You communicate well, work calmly under pressure, and follow clinical guidelines with accuracy and professionalism. You also value continuous learning and uphold high standards of infection control and safety.

You will bring:

  • Certificate in Dental Assisting (mandatory)
  • Experience in all aspects of dental assisting across diverse patient groups
  • Working knowledge of WHS and infection control standards in dental practice
  • Ability to prioritise tasks and organise workload efficiently
  • Willingness to learn digital radiography, notation systems, and electronic records
  • Understanding of medico-legal responsibilities and ethical practice
  • Working with Children Blue Card (required)

Metro South Oral Health is the largest public provider in the State. It delivers a comprehensive range of services to an eligible adult population and children and adolescents from four (4) years of age until the completion of Year 10 in secondary school.

The Service provides family centred and paediatric primary oral health care and a range of secondary and specialist care from 17 different facilities.
