We are expanding our design team and seeking an experienced Civil Design Engineer (Primary) to join our Adelaide Head Office. The role will play a key part in the design and delivery of complex substation and civil infrastructure projects that support Australia's transition to renewable energy.

About the Role

As a Civil Design Engineer – Primary, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality design and engineering solutions across zone and transmission substations, including structural, foundation, and building elements. You'll collaborate closely with electrical and primary design teams, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, and to the highest technical standards.

This is a hands-on role requiring strong technical knowledge, multidisciplinary coordination, and practical understanding of HV substation infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver detailed civil and structural designs for primary substation and transmission infrastructure.
  • Prepare design documentation, specifications, and construction drawings using AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.
  • Manage and coordinate civil design components within multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Review, check, and approve drawings and designs prepared by internal drafters or external partners.
  • Support tender submissions and project bids through the provision of accurate and timely civil design inputs.
  • Ensure all design work aligns with company quality, WHS, and environmental management systems.
  • Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, and constructability workshops.
  • Liaise with clients, utilities, suppliers, and contractors to ensure project success.

Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (or equivalent).
  • 3–7 years' experience in civil/structural design for substations, power systems, or similar heavy infrastructure.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.
  • Strong knowledge of foundation design, steel structures, and concrete works.
  • Understanding of Australian standards (AS/NZS, IEC) relevant to civil and electrical infrastructure.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage priorities and deliver outcomes under tight deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
