Deputy Head of Thrive (Middle School)

The position supports whole School and your location could be either of our Melbourne campuses.
This position will begin on 17 November 2025, with a three-year appointment as Deputy Head of Thrive. As part of this tenure, the successful candidate will also serve as Acting Head of Thrive from February 2026 through to November 2026, covering a period of leave.
The role comes with an ongoing classroom teacher position with the Deputy Head of Thrive Position of Responsibility (PoR).

Thrive is Haileybury's signature Middle School subject designed to equip students with the personal, social, and future-ready skills needed to navigate an ever-changing world. Integrating real-world learning with Haileybury's explicit teaching model, Thrive develops four key capabilities—Educational, Social, Vocational, and Financial—through inquiry, project-based learning, and community engagement. The program empowers students to think critically, act ethically, and contribute meaningfully to society, while bridging the gap between academic learning and practical life skills.
About You:
Haileybury is seeking to appoint an outstanding educational leader who is passionate about equipping young people with the knowledge, skills, and mindset to thrive in an ever-changing world.
The candidate must have:
- Demonstrated ability to lead high performing teams and to manage staff.
- A passion for research and evidence about how students learn, curriculum development and pedagogical innovation.
- Have up-to-date knowledge of broader educational developments and best practice.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and organisational skills.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, coach, coordinate, delegate and empower others to achieve outcomes.
- Maintain professional relationships at all times, acting with authenticity and integrity.
- A demonstrated knowledge of, and flair with, the use of technology in education and an awareness of emerging technologies.
- Demonstrated ability to employ blended approaches to learning.
- Capability to maintain and develop online content, learning activities, formative and summative assessment.
Be an active contributor in the teaching community, present at conferences and share on-line.
