FULL POSITION DESCRIPTION
Position: Midwifery Advisor
Appointment: Full time
Purpose:
The Midwifery Advisor provides consistent, evidence-based professional advice to support the Chief Executive Officer, Chief Midwife, and Board of Directors as well as to Australian College of Midwives (ACM) members, internal teams and external organisations.
ACM applies both a state and territory and national context to the midwifery profession in Australia.
Key Responsibilities
· Leadership and Professional Advice
o Expert Guidance: Offer professional advice and briefings to internal and external stakeholders on issues impacting midwives' professional practice, including policy and advocacy matters.
o Policy Briefing: Submissions and Consultations: Ability to develop high quality documentation as required to respond to national and jurisdictional consultations and contribute to white papers as required.
o Member Support and enquiries: Deliver exceptional customer service while providing professional advice to ACM members. Respond to and document member enquiries based on legislative, regulatory, clinical, and professional requirements.
o Representation: Represent ACM at external meetings, committees and forums as required.
· Education and Research
o CPD: Coordinate external ACM Continuing Professional Development (CPD) reviews and endorsements.
o Education Content Development: Supporting the Education Manager, develop new and review existing midwifery education content as required. Facilitate webinars and e-learning module development as required.
· Operational Support
o College Programs: including Midwifery Practice Review (MPR), Baby Friendly Health Initiative (BFHI) Administration, mentor programs
o Collaboration: With relevant staff, develop, review and update operational plans, programs, projects, and internal procedures to achieve ACM's strategic priorities.
o Other ad hoc projects and tasks as required to meet organisational demands
Required Skills and Experience
· Qualifications: Midwife registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) with a minimum of 5 years' recent experience and a strong insight into the Australian context of practice.
· Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to communicate with empathy while providing a professional service to members.
· Experience: Demonstrated understanding of contemporary midwifery practice, regulation and policy issues across a variety of maternity settings and models of care e.g. private practice, academia or public service.
· Project Management: Demonstrated project management experience, including reporting and evaluation.
· Data and Research: Demonstrated analytical and research skills and experience in the preparation of submissions and report writing.
· Working Style: Demonstrated ability to work autonomously as part of a geographically dispersed team.
· IT: Proficient in information technology including strong skills in Microsoft Office.
Other
· This role may involve some travel within Australia and some meetings outside normal business hours
Desirable Skills and Experience
· Advanced Qualifications: Relevant post-graduate qualifications (e.g. Endorsement for Scheduled Medicines, Primary Maternity Care, Maternal Child and Family Health, Lactation Consultant)
· Public Speaking: Previous public speaking and/or media training is highly desirable.
Key Relationships
The Midwifery Advisor will report to the Chief Midwife and work closely with the midwifery team.
