About Mackays:

Founded in 1945, Mackays Group is a family-owned business who have grown from a single paddock into Australia's leading banana producer.

Now operated by the family's third generation, the company employs over 550 people across nine locations from Lakeland to Melbourne. Over its 80 year history, it has diversified into growing papaya, sugarcane, cattle, and avocados, and has expanded vertically into produce sales, ripening, and processing.

Location:

This role is based in Tropical Far North Queensland, about a 20-minute drive from Mackays' head office in Tully 4854. Transport is available to the farms from Tully or Mission Beach.

About the Role:

We're looking for a hands-on, motivated person to join our team as a Packing Shed Supervisor. If you've got some experience in supervising and want to take on a new challenge in a friendly, growing company, this could be the role for you.

This role offers a 4-day work week (38 hours) — Monday to Thursday, 6:30am to 4:40pm.

You'll work closely with the Packing Shed Manager and be responsible for:

  • Making sure everyone follows workplace health and safety, environmental, and food safety regulations while maintaining high-quality standards.
  • Helping manage production and meet supply needs throughout the season
  • Checking equipment, ensuring PPE is used correctly, and keeping production records accurate and up to date
  • Leading the team to pack produce to customer standards
  • Managing, supervising, and continuously training the packing shed team to ensure goals are met.
  • Coordinating routine equipment servicing and repairs alongside the maintenance team.

About you:

We're after someone who enjoys leading a team and takes pride in doing a great job. Ideally, you'll have:

  • Previous experience in a similar supervisor or team leader role, agriculture experience not essential
  • Good communication and people skills
  • The ability to motivate and guide your team
  • Strong organisation and time management skills
  • Good attention to detail and problem-solving ability
  • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office and job-specific software)
