PEER, in partnership with the Commonwealth and South Australian Governments and TAFE SA, is excited to bring the Shipbuilding Employment Pathways (SEP) Pilot Initiative to South Australia. SEP is designed to increase Australia's skilled labour in critical trades within the nuclear-powered submarine, naval shipbuilding, and sustainment enterprises. This is a unique opportunity to develop the skills and experience you will need to thrive in one of the world's most innovative, and high-impact sectors.
About You
You have ideally completed a Certificate ll in Engineering Pathways. You're motivated, passionate, and committed to pursue a rewarding career within the rapidly growing defence industry. You're punctual, well-presented, reliable and are committed to completing a 4-year apprenticeship. Health and Safety is important to you, you're a great team player, enjoy problem solving and have a sound level of computer skills, literacy, and numeracy.
About The Role
This 4-year Apprenticeship offers you nationally accredited training, awarding you upon successful completion, a Certificate III in Engineering – Fabrication. This program will be delivered through the PEER Group Training Organisation (GTO) in collaboration with TAFE SA. In addition, you will engage in on-site work placements and be hosted with a major ship builder in the Defence Industry
You will be mentored and supported every step of the way. PEER have a dedicated Apprentice and Trainee Supervisor who will support you throughout your apprenticeship. The support does not stop there, when you join the PEER team you will gain access to a team of professionals, as well as support mechanisms provided by Mas National , TAFE SA and our Host Employers,
PEER is committed to supporting you to secure your next role after you have successfully completed your Apprenticeship. 98% of PEER apprentices secure employment in their chosen field at the conclusion of their studies.

Who Are We
PEER is a non-profit industry-based organisation, a Group Training Organisation (GTO) and an award-winning Registered Training Organisation (RTO), delivering nationally accredited training packages to meet South Australia's skill development needs. With 87,000 people trained, 92% apprentice completion rates, 98% of apprentices employed on completion and over 5,600 apprentices trained, we are the largest employer of apprentices within the Building and Construction industry in SA.
We welcome applications form all backgrounds and experience levels however, due to the defence orientation of this role, successful candidates must be eligible to obtain an appropriate level of Defence Security Clearance, as defined in the AGSVA guidelines.
Please note, should your application progress, you will be required to complete pre-employment checks. These checks may include but are not limited to, aptitude testing, reference checks, national police check, citizenship check, working with children check and a medical – drug and alcohol testing.

The recruitment process will be completed throughout October into early November, with successful candidates being selected mid-November. The successful candidates will be required to commence on 3 February 2026.
