Lake Illawarra, New South Wales, Australia South Coast Motor Racing Full time $70,000 - $120,000 per year
Amazing opportunity for a skilled mechanic

We want to talk to you if you are:

· A qualified and experienced mechanic

· Ambitious and highly motivated

· Interested in testing yourself in a high-performance team environment

· keen to expand your skillsets and profile

· after some extra income

· AND you have a love of motor racing.

South Coast Motor Racing is a brand-new Narooma based racing team representing our beloved South Coast which will be entering the Radical Australia Cup in 2026 with a testing programme and possible trial race late in 2025. Our first race is at Phillip Island in March 2026 and other circuits include Sydney MotorSport park, Queensland Raceway, The Bend(Adelaide) and possibly Bathurst.

We are looking for a race mechanic (qualified but will consider a last year apprentice if your boss thinks you are a genius) to be part of our close-knit team and to help maintain and prepare our Radical SR3 RSX. This ultra high-performance car is a racing thoroughbred with similar data logging capabilities to an F1 car. It's based on the proven double wishbone suspension system with coil over dampers and four-wheel disc brakes. It is powered by a RPE 1500cc Suzuki motor with approximately 226 hp redlining at 10,500rpm with a 6-speed sequential gearbox.

The ideal mechanic will have a passion to learn and operate closely with other team members whilst having a positive can-do attitude to work hard and test yourself in this competitive but incredibly fun environment. A strong passion to learn all mechanical aspects of these awesome race cars will be a critical requirement.

Most of the work will be unscheduled on an as needs basis but will certainly be regularly required pre and post testing and race weekends, sometimes with significant repair work The successful candidate will be required to travel with the team for the 5 race weekends from Thursday to Sunday in 2026 which are all over Australia – travel expenses and accommodation will be provided. There will be a number of other testing days where attendance is preferable but not mandatory.

Your passion to race and to test yourself will be critical because although this is a paid role, you will not be doing this for the money as rates will be likely disappointing We will pay above the award rate but for a daily or half daily rate.

However, the opportunity is rare and exposes the suitable candidate to see all angles of the Shannon Speed Series racing events. We aim to ignite your racing mechanic career whilst being inspired by working for a race team with a high-performance work ethic. You will need to be able to travel to the car as required which is based near Narooma.

Most of all you will be in this for the excitement and the adrenalin of working in the racing industry – this is an Amateur race team with an extremely professional approach, but fun is at the forefront of our values and objectives. In return for your passion and efforts, we will be promoting your efforts and ensuring that your career profile is raised significantly through our website and social media channels.
