  • Role Title: Family and Youth Counsellor

  • Role Type: Max-term (1 Year), Part-time (24 Hours Per Week)

  • Salary: $112,396 - $116,038 p.a + Super + Salary packaging

About the Role:

  • Deliver high-quality specialist family-based therapeutic interventions, psychosocial assessments, and health education to young people and families, including facilitating psychoeducational and therapeutic groups, while ensuring culturally safe, person-centred care.

  • Recognise and respond to child safety, welfare, and wellbeing concerns in compliance with NSW legislation and mandatory reporting requirements, providing advocacy and liaison with external services such as Mental Health, Sexual Health, Aboriginal Health, Criminal Justice, GPs, and housing agencies.

  • Contribute to clinical service development through planning, implementation, evaluation, and reporting of initiatives, routine outcome measurement, and active participation in quality improvement, policy development, and clinical research activities.

  • Provide supervision and mentoring to students and junior staff within training scope, engage in clinical review and reflective practice, and participate in ongoing professional development, including training, peer feedback, and use of audio/video recording for skill enhancement.

  • Maintain accurate and confidential documentation of client progress in electronic medical records, uphold client advocacy by ensuring clients and families understand care plans, and incorporate discharge planning into multidisciplinary care pathways.

  • Operate autonomously with strong organisational and prioritisation skills, participate in team meetings and community education on stimulant use, and maintain up-to-date knowledge of interventions and pharmacotherapy relevant to the field.
     

About You:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Counselling, Social Work, Psychology or related behavioural sciences, with eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) or other relevant professional bodies, and registration where applicable.

  • Proven advanced clinical experience delivering family-based therapeutic interventions and psychosocial assessments to young people and families, utilising evidence-based individual, family, and group interventions.

  • Demonstrated understanding of youth and family clinical frameworks with experience in evidence-based service development, and skilled in responding to child safety and wellbeing concerns per NSW legislation, including referral and advocacy across health and community sectors.

  • Experience providing clinical supervision, mentoring students and junior staff, and engaging in ongoing professional development, clinical review, and quality improvement activities, including documentation and use of digital health records.

  • Highly developed communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills, with the ability to operate autonomously within multidisciplinary teams, participate in community education, and maintain up-to-date knowledge of interventions and treatment options relevant to stimulant and related health services.
