Exciting Opportunity: Dual Role in the Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) Specialist Field

We are currently seeking a dedicated professional for a dynamic dual-role position within the Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) sector. This opportunity includes:

  • Family Counsellor (3 days per week): Providing support to individuals and families, aged 12 and up, that are affected by a loved one's substance or alcohol use. This role focuses on delivering compassionate, evidence-based counselling to help families navigate the challenges associated with addiction.
  • AOD Counsellor (1 day per week): Offering direct support to individuals, aged 12 and up, whom are experiencing problematic substance use, with a focus on harm reduction, recovery, and client-centered care.

This position is based within the Townsville Hospital and Health Service region and involves a combination of community outreach to surrounding regions and office-based appointments.

Both roles are currently funded until June

What we are looking for

Tertiary qualifications in Social Sciences, Social Work, Psychology or related fields, hold a current Australian Drivers Licence, and a National Police Check. You will be confident and capable with all aspects of networking, group facilitation, case management, clinical counselling, and a understanding of evidence-based practice.

  • Experience working with a broad range clients aged 12 and up
  • A background in the development of individual treatment plans and facilitation of group work
  • Robust understanding of cultural awareness and safety with the capacity to support people from diverse backgrounds
  • Being a team player is important, but you will also need to be comfortable working independently
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Stakeholder engagement – building and maintaining relationships with local services, in the youth and adult space, is a key factor
  • Confidence to contribute to case conferences and team discussions with an eagerness for ongoing change and improvements
  • Able to produce accurate, relevant reports and case-notes while complying with all legislative requirements
  • Complete networking across the HHS region on a regular basis
    Knowledge of local area is highly desirable

Based on experience and qualifications, this position will be SCHADS level 4.1 to 5.3, dependant on experience and expertise of the right candidate. The hourly rate for this role is between $ $53.31 plus Super and Salary Packaging of up to $15,900 annually.
