The Principal inspector (Construction) role will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, have a construction focus and work with industry to improve health and safety in Queensland workplaces. You'll implement the Best Practice Review of Workplace Health and Safety Queensland and ensure we meet the expectations of compliance and enforcement that the community expects of us as a regulator.
We are recruiting position across our Newstead, Maroochydore, Gladstone and Rockhampton offices, however, please submit an application to be considered for regions outside of this as part of our OIR talent pool should a vacancy arise.
About the team
Workplace Health and Safety Queensland (WHSQ) enforces work health and safety laws, investigates workplace fatalities, serious injuries, prosecutes breaches of legislation and educates employees and employers on their legal obligations. We're responsible for improving work health and safety in Queensland and helping to reduce the risk of workers being killed or injured on the job. We do this by making sure work health and safety laws are followed, investigating work-related fatalities and serious injuries, educating workplaces on ways to comply with legislation, taking legal action when work health and safety laws are broken and educating employees and employers on their legal obligations.
Your key responsibilities
Specific responsibilities are outlined in the position description for this role but generally, you'll have:
- Demonstrated strength in written communication, time management, and the ability to build and manage relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
- Proven experience in applying workplace health and safety protocols within community or regulatory enforcement environments is highly desirable.
- Resilience and be a confident communicator, capable of navigating challenging conversations and situations with professionalism, while engaging, educating, and influencing stakeholders to achieve compliance within a regulatory framework.
- Ability to contribute meaningfully to the safety of Queenslanders by being part of a proactive team, where your role has a visible and positive impact on workplace safety across the community.
