We are seeking an M365 Engineer to design, maintain, secure and support the organisation's M365 ecosystem. They will ensure a secure and reliable end user experience, maintaining data governance and compliance requirements.

This role requires expertise in the M365 ecosystem including Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, Entra ID and Purview. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of cloud productivity tools, strong troubleshooting skills, and experience supporting enterprise-scale environments.

What you will be doing

Planning, deploying, and managing Microsoft 365 services, including Exchange Online, Microsoft Teams, SharePoint Online (in conjunction with the Digital Workplace team), OneDrive for Business and Entra ID.

Managing identity, authentication and access management across M365 including Conditional Access, SSO and MFA.

Monitoring and maintaining M365 services to ensure performance, availability and security.

Managing and monitoring backup and recovery of all M365 data.

Managing all M365 licensing.

Security, Compliance, and Governance:

Designing and implementing M365 governance, security, compliance, and data loss prevention (DLP) policies using Microsoft Purview.

Ensuring email security and best practices are adopted throughout the organisation, leveraging technologies such as Proofpoint and DNS security controls.

Ensuring M365 ecosystem security meets NIST and Essential 8 maturity levels as mandated by the security team.

Automation and Monitoring

Automating routine and repetitive tasks and workflows using PowerShell and Power Automate, engaging with Digital Workplace team where necessary.

Enhancing user onboarding/offboarding processes via automation.

Support and Collaboration

Providing 2nd/3rd-line support and resolving escalated incidents related to Microsoft 365, engaging with the Digital Workplace team where necessary.

Working with security, compliance, and legal teams to support audits and investigations.

Developing and maintaining documentation, SOPs, and training for end-users and IT staff.

Staying current with Microsoft 365 updates and roadmap changes; provide recommendations for improvement.

Your background

Relevant tertiary IT qualifications and/or industry experience and certifications.

Proven experience (5+ years) as an M365 Engineer in an enterprise environment.

In-depth knowledge of Microsoft 365 services including Exchange Online, SharePoint, Teams and OneDrive.

Strong understanding of security and compliance features within Microsoft 365

Hands-on experience with Microsoft Purview compliance tools

Strong PowerShell scripting for M365 administration

Solid understanding of identity and access management (Entra ID / Azure AD), Conditional Access, and MFA

Experience with Microsoft Defender for M365, Exchange Online Protection & Proofpoint.

Ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues, understand bigger picture impacts to change on an organisation.

Familiarity with security frameworks and standards (e.g., NIST, Essential 8, ISO 27001)

Preferred experience with bulk mailing platforms such as SendGrid.

Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

Demonstrated ability to work in a rapid-moving, high paced organisation.

Thorough understanding and experience with ITIL processes, including incident, change, problem and configuration management.

Must be proactive, self-motivated and have a passion for learning and continuous improvement.

MS-102: Microsoft 365 Administrator

SC-400: Microsoft Information Protection Administrator

SC-300: Identity and Access Administrator
