Kununurra Waringarri Aboriginal Corporation (KWAC) is a nonprofit organisation that has been serving the Kununurra community for over forty years. We provide a suite of integrated support programs to help local people overcome their barriers and lead their best lives. We believe that only through sustainable change can there be real improved quality of life for our people.

About the Role:

KWAC requires a Deputy Chief Executive Officer (DCEO) to work with the CEO and the Board to ensure the strategic vision of KWAC is being achieved. The DCEO is responsible for successfully implementing KWAC's strategic plan, and providing hands-on leadership, direction and oversight across all aspects of the Corporation's operations, whilst ensuring long term organisational sustainability. A desirable candidate is a person that can uphold Waringarri vision of leadership and commitment to local Aboriginal people and moving forward to a positive better future

This position is subject to a six (6) month probationary period, during which performance and suitability for the role will be assessed in accordance with KWAC's Employee Policy Handbook and applicable industrial instruments.

This is an identified Aboriginal position. Key Responsibilities:

Governance

Together with the CEO:

o attend all Directors' Meetings, including General Meetings and AGMs,

o enact action tasks associated with the governance meetings

Representing KWAC

o Representing KWAC in the community, working with key stakeholders - government and non-government, engaging in advocacy, negotiations, and partnership building.

o Attending and presenting at relevant forums and meetings.

o Represent KWAC when engaging the media.

Team Management and Leadership

o Lead with a strength-based and community development approach.

o Manage direct reports to DCEO and the whole of KWAC Programs Area staff.

o Implement an adaptive leadership style that encourages leaders and their teams to be flexible, resilient, and thrive in changing circumstances.

o Use initiative in the development of innovative practices that support service delivery.

o As a member of the KWAC Senior Management Team, work collectively to innovate and create place-based initiatives aligned with KWAC values.

o Ensure that the programs are conducted in a safe manner, adhering to work health and safety guidelines as well as KWAC's code of conduct.

Administration and Reporting

o Oversee the reporting and financial records for the KWAC Programs Area.

o Work together with the Programs Impact Manager to achieve all grant management tasks.

o Work together with the Operations Manager to ensure all the Programs Area is compliant with WHS standards.

General

Qualifications and Experience:

o Qualification and experience which are relevant to the role

o Desirable -proven experience in executive leadership in Aboriginal organisations

o C Class Driver's license

o Ability to obtain and maintain Working with Children's Check and clear police clearance.

o Experience working in a similar role and/or working in other Aboriginal Corporations

o Local knowledge of the Kununurra community – stakeholders, families, community members etc.

o Knowledge and understanding of the complex issues that surround family wellbeing in remote Australia.

o Demonstrated experience successfully leading and managing diverse teams.
