Payments Product Owner – Merchant Payments Services

  • 6-month contract (likely to extend or convert) |
  • Sydney (Hybrid, 3 days per week in office)
  • Rate $1100/d + GST (some flex for exceptional candidates)

The Opportunity

This program is focused on modernising and uplifting merchant payment services — enabling customers to pay through Apple Pay, Google Pay, and other modern retail methods, while equipping the business with the tools to sell products more effectively.

We're looking for a Product Owner with deep payments or banking experience who knows how to balance day-to-day stability with delivering modern, scalable solutions that replace outdated systems.

The Role

You'll own a portfolio of merchant payments applications and services, ensuring today's operations run smoothly while driving the transformation of legacy platforms into modern, enterprise-ready solutions. A key part of the role will be running vendor selection processes and overseeing delivery partners to achieve uplift at pace and scale.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading the modernisation of merchant payments services across the enterprise
  • Running vendor evaluations and RFPs to replace legacy platforms
  • Managing vendor relationships, contracts, commercials, and performance
  • Maintaining day-to-day stability while driving enhancements and new features
  • Enabling digital channels and products to consume payment services via APIs
  • Partnering with stakeholders across business, technology, and delivery functions
  • Guiding a small team to execute on roadmap priorities

About You

  • Experience in payments, banking, or financial services within complex, large-scale environments
  • Strong vendor management and commercial negotiation skills
  • Proven track record running RFPs and uplifting/replacing legacy technology
  • Familiar with modern payment methods (Apple Pay, Google Pay, etc.)
  • Skilled at balancing operational reliability with continuous improvement and delivery
  • Excellent communicator with strong stakeholder and team leadership skills

Contract Details

  • Initial 6-month contract with high potential for extension or conversion
  • Sydney-based, hybrid working (3 days onsite preferred)
