About the Role
This position requires a minimum commitment of one weekend day per month with on-call responsibilities, providing specialist medical oversight and delivering acute and subacute care to patients in their homes. Service delivery is multimodal, including home visits, telehealth, and in-person consultations, with patient allocation across any hospital within the district.
Purpose of the Position
The successful candidate will work closely with a multidisciplinary team to conduct timely assessments, guide clinical decisions, and support early interventions, enhancing continuity of care and reducing avoidable hospital admissions.
Key responsibilities include:
• Providing medical governance and clinical oversight of weekend HITH and virtual care patients
• Conducting timely assessments and reviews via multimodal consultations
• Managing complex chronic and infectious conditions in community settings
• Supporting care planning and clinical risk mitigation
• Collaborating with nursing, allied health, and virtual care teams
• Contributing to hospital avoidance and service responsiveness initiatives
You will provide clinical management and treatment of patients under your care in a Northern Sydney Local Health District facility or service. This care will be provided within the scope of clinical practice endorsed by the NSLHD Medical and Dental Appointments Advisory Committee.
The position will provide clinical consultation services within NSLHD and will contribute to the teaching and training of medical students, graduates and other health care professionals and to research, evaluation and quality improvement activities within NSLHD.
Selection Criteria
- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia. Applicants must have Fellowship of a recognised Australasian Specialist College or recognition as a specialist by the Medical Board of Australia. Applicants expecting to be awarded their fellowship within 3 months may be considered.

- Sound clinical knowledge in a relevant specialty demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position including evidence of participation in quality assurance activities relevant to the specialty.
- Demonstrated clinical, diagnostic and technical skills commensurate with functioning as an independent Specialty Consultant
- High level interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrated ability to lead and work within a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Demonstrated participation in and commitment to undergraduate, postgraduate, interdisciplinary teaching and education, including research, quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.
- Preparedness to participate in any on-call service, including on-call rosters already existing or established.
- Current NSW Drivers licence.
