About the role

The Cancer and Inflammation Research Group at the Ingham institute are seeking a talented Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join our team.

The successful candidate will be conducting original research across NHMRC, and philanthropy funded projects and will be responsible for laboratory-based research, including collection and processing of patient samples, data analysis and preparation of manuscripts and presentations to disseminate research outcomes. The project requires a range of research skills that are contingent on the individual project.

Key projects focus on identification of biomarkers for personalisation of patient treatment responses with a focus on DNA damage responses and immunological markers in prostate, lung and gastrointestinal cancers.

The role requires collaboration with local, national and international research teams and support of higher degree research students.

The successful candidate will also undertake some of the following duties:

  • Conduct a range of experimental tasks focusing on analysis of patient samples for DNA damage responses and immunological status under guidance of the laboratory head.

  • Conduct molecular and cellular biology experiments to address the mechanism underlying identified biomarkers.

  • Collection of maintenance of research data and patient information in accordance with project protocols and applicable policies.

  • Ensure and biosafety and ethics approvals are in place and adhered to.

  • Assist with the supervision of HDR candidates and undergraduate students working on the projects where required in consultation with A/Prof Roberts.

  • Attendance and presentation at team meetings and seminars.

  • Co-ordination with collaborators and project stakeholders as necessary.

About You

As a Postdoctoral Research Fellow, you will have the following:

  • A PhD in molecular biology, cancer biology or immunology.

  • Research experience in handling and processing of patient blood samples.

  • Experience in wet lab techniques ideally including flow cytometry, immunofluorescence and next generation sequencing including statistical and bioinformatic analysis.

  • Experience in scientific writing and presentations.

  • Proven time management and organisational skills, including working to fixed deadlines and managing tasks with conflicting priorities.

  • Proven ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team.

  • A willingness to travel to other campuses/facilities.
