SKIPPER l Diana
Mures Fishing is seeking a capable and experienced Skipper to take the helm of Diana, our established longline vessel. Diana predominantly fishes in the deep waters around Tasmania, and during winter months may operate on the high seas off the NSW coast for extended trips.
This is a full-time equivalent position remunerated by catch share. As Skipper, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the vessel and its crew, ensuring the successful delivery of our premier seafood products.
What you'll be doing
- Skippering Diana in accordance with all maritime and company regulations.
- Leading and managing crew onboard to ensure smooth and safe fishing operations.
- Planning and executing fishing operations in consultation with the owners; including identifying optimal fishing grounds.
- Overseeing the setting and hauling of demersal Mustad Autoline lines and ensuring compliance with catch procedures.
- Maintaining vessel logs, catch documentation, and ensuring regulatory reporting is completed accurately.
- Conducting routine inspections and ensuring the vessel and all equipment are maintained to a high standard.
- Managing on-board safety procedures and ensuring crew compliance with WHS policies.
- Collaborating with onshore teams to support logistics, reporting and delivery requirements.
What we're looking for
- Proven experience as a Skipper or in a senior role aboard commercial fishing vessels.
- Relevant maritime certifications and qualifications to operate as a commercial vessel master.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to foster a safe, respectful, and productive crew environment.
- Demonstrated knowledge of commercial fishing operations and catch management.
- A sound understanding of marine safety systems, environmental regulations, and vessel maintenance.
- High-level decision-making, navigational, and problem-solving skills.
- A commitment to sustainability and environmental best practices.
