Overall position Objective:

To assist in the smooth running of the Food Trailer primarily based at Redlands PCYC on behalf of RedCity Roar with a view to increasing additional revenue for the Association through the purchase of hot & cold food & beverages.

This is a contract role within the Association whereby we pay for the hours required to complete the role each week.

RedCity Roar Basketball Association (RCRB) is a community-based association that aims to promote, encourage, and develop domestic and representative competitions for those players and teams that enjoy the sport of basketball in the city of the Redlands and surrounds.

RCRB is currently seeking an enthusiastic individual to oversee and coordinate the running of the RCRB Food Trailer. As well as having a sound knowledge of food service, sales & marketing strategies, the successful applicant will demonstrate a focus on teamwork, self-motivation, and initiative. They will have strong organisational skills and be able to deliver outcomes while working to deadlines in a sometimes challenging and fast paced environment.

The Food Trailer Convenor will report to the General Manager and is expected to work closely with all casual food trailer staff, key volunteers and RCRB staff, in all areas involving the RCRB Food Trailer.

Roles and Responsibilities:

The Food Trailer Convenor will primarily perform duties immediately before, during and after scheduled events at specified venues, including but not limited to the following:

· Overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Food Trailer, including opening and closing procedures, food preparation, and service delivery.

· Oversee casual staff & volunteer recruitment & training for Food Trailer. Provide effective supervision, training and assistance to food trailer staff and volunteers in the performance of their roles.

· Ensure casual staff & volunteers are rostered in advance for each competition night/day the food trailer is active.

· Facilitate any roster changes leading up to and including on each competition night/day.

· Oversee the casual for the day/night and ensure they understand what roles they have been allocated.

· Ensure staff and volunteers complete mandatory requirements prior to commencing work.

· Ensure that a weekly pay sheets are completed that accurately reflects the number of food trailer staff used & hours worked each week to be approved by General Manager.

· Developing and implementing menus, ensuring a balanced range of nutritious and appealing food options, and maintaining high hygiene standards.

· Build out a casual food trailer staff database for RCRB highlighting active members & availabilities.

· Oversee the stocktaking & ordering of any stock required for each week. Identifying stock requirements, placing orders with approved suppliers, managing inventory levels, and minimizing waste.

· Manage the Point of Sale and Inventory Systems for all stock and non-stock items

· Managing the Food Trailer's budget & appropriate food & drink pricing in consultation with the Treasurer & General Manager, tracking income and expenses, and ensuring financial sustainability.

· In conjunction with the RCR GM, Operations Manager & Treasurer, supervise the financial operations of the canteen including daily account reconciliation and implement agreed security protocols.

· Coordinate the process of internal purchases e.g. for RCR staff and volunteers with approval of the General Manager.

· Negotiate memberships, contracts and agreements with suppliers for the provision of food and other services with the approval of the General Manager.

· Ensuring the Food Trailer adheres to all relevant health and safety regulations, including food safety standards and hygiene practices.

· Review purchase invoices and refer to Operations Manager for payment within agreed timeframes.

· Providing excellent service to RCR or visiting members, staff, and other stakeholders, and addressing any concerns or feedback.

· Maintaining effective communication with the RCR staff, parents, and other relevant stakeholders.

· Ensuring the Food Trailer area and equipment are clean, well-maintained, and in good working order & notify the Operations Manager & General Manager of maintenance and replacement requirements.

Selection Criteria (Personal Requirements)

Knowledge & Experience


•   Experience in catering, hospitality, or retail: This could include experience in food preparation, customer service, or managing a team.


•   Understanding of food safety and hygiene practices: To ensure the canteen maintains a high standard of cleanliness and safety. Ensure food storage and handling is appropriate, hygienic and in accordance with the standards outlined by health controlling authorities within relevant legislation and regulations.


•   Knowledge and ability to plan, organize & monitor the daily administration of the Food Trailer, including the ordering of products, rostering of staff & volunteers, and record keeping.


•   Ability to ensure safe and hygienic operation of the Food Trailer in accordance with the Queensland Government's Food Safety Act 2006 and Workplace Health and Safety legislation and requirements

Skills & Competencies


•   Strong organizational and time management skills: To manage the day-to-day operations, plan menus, coordinate staff and volunteers and manage own time.


•   Basic financial management skills: To manage the Food Trailer's budget, track expenses, and ensure financial sustainability. Oversee cash handling and related security processes, operate a cash register and/or EFTPOS, collect monies and balance funds at the end of the day.


•   Competent in the operation, cleaning & maintenance of catering & hospitality equipment – experience working in a café or canteen is desirable.


•   Excellent negotiation, decision making and problem-solving skills.


•   Advanced interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.

Conditions of Service


•   A current Blue Card (or equivalent): For working with children.


•   Must have own licence & vehicle.


•   Eligible to work in Australia.


•   Maintenance of relevant Food Safety training and qualifications
