About the role
We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Training Specialist to join our Operations, People & Safety team in Tamworth and play a pivotal role in the establishment and ongoing success of the Essential Energy Training Academy.
This position is open to all permanent, fixed-term, and casual employees at Essential Energy.
As Senior Training Specialist, you will lead the delivery, quality assurance, and continuous improvement of technical training programs, driving training innovation to uplift workforce capability. This role is central to building technical excellence through nationally recognised training, network authorisation activities, and duty of care programs, while providing leadership and mentoring to a geographically dispersed training team
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the delivery and coordination of multiple technical L&D programs, ensuring quality outcomes aligned to organisational policies, procedures and compliance requirements
- Coordinate and oversee training, assessment, Verification of Competence (VOC), Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Recognition of Current Competencies (RCC) processes
- Manage learning resource development activities, including project coordination, quality assurance and continuous improvement cycles
- Partner with key stakeholders to support the development and implementation of technical capability strategies, objectives and performance metrics
- Provide guidance and advice on AQF requirements and technical employee development pathways
- Audit internal and external training delivery and providers to ensure contractual, safety and quality standards are met
- Ensure compliance with ASQA Standards, RTO requirements and regulatory obligations
- Deliver accurate and timely reporting to senior management on program deliverables, milestones, financial performance and outcomes
- Lead and promote professional development, mentoring and lifelong learning across the training team
- Actively drive safety leadership and accountability across all training programs and initiatives
About You
You are an experienced technical training professional with strong knowledge of the VET sector and the electrical supply industry. Highly organised and confident managing complex programs, you are motivated by developing people, systems, and capability.
You bring strong stakeholder engagement skills, enjoy mentoring others, and balance strategic oversight with hands-on delivery in a dynamic environment. Through the Training Academy, you will help ensure regional Australians lead the change.
Mandatory Qualifications
- Diploma of Training and Assessment, or equivalent recognised under the Australian Qualification Framework
- Certificate III in ESI - Distribution, Cable Jointing or Electrotechnology
- Current Driver's Licence
- SafeWork NSW General Construction Induction Training (White Card)
- Ability to obtain and maintain all required regulatory, industry and business‑specific licences and authorisations
Desirable
- Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40116), if not already held
- Certificate IV in Project Management Practice (BSB40920)
- Level 3 Restricted Zone Substation access
- Certificate IV in Electrical - Renewable Energy or willingness to undertake
Experience and Skills
- Demonstrated experience in a supervisory and/or management role within a VET environment or large technical organisation
- Strong working knowledge of AQF structures and ASQA Standards (SNR)
- Experience delivering competency‑based training and assessment in a regulated environment
- In‑depth knowledge of electrical supply industry training requirements and practices
- Proven ability to manage multiple programs, projects and competing priorities
- Strong stakeholder engagement, communication and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated problem‑solving, decision‑making and analytical capability
- High‑level organisational, reporting and time management skills
- Sound computer skills across business and learning management systems
