Located in the iconic Herald & Weekly Times building, Robata is an evocative Japanese grill restaurant, designed by award-winning architects Ewert Leaf. Inspired by the neon glow of Tokyo's nightscapes, the interior experience is futuristic and cinematic. A bold, graphic lightbox installation designed by global branding boutique Mucho, transports patrons to the streets of a Japanese super-city. The environment, which translates the bustling energy of Japanese izakaya-style eateries to an atmospheric CBD space is relaxed and informal, infused with the glow and aroma of our charcoal grill.

As a Full-Time Commis Chef at Robata, your day-to-day will involve:

  • Assisting with food preparation and cooking across various sections of the kitchen
  • Following recipes and plating guidelines to ensure consistency and quality
  • Maintaining high standards of hygiene, cleanliness, and food safety
  • Setting up and packing down workstations efficiently
  • Restocking supplies and assisting with deliveries
  • Communicating clearly with the team to support smooth kitchen operations
  • Taking direction from senior chefs and being open to feedback and training
  • Contributing to a positive and collaborative team environment

We're looking for someone with:

  • Full-time, flexible availability
  • Unrestricted working rights in Australia
  • Minimum 12 months' experience in a fast-paced, premium commercial kitchen
  • Strong time management and the ability to work under pressure
  • A genuine passion for food and the hospitality industry
  • Solid knife skills and confidence working in an open kitchen
  • Experience with grilling techniques (charcoal or wood) — a bonus
  • Experience with Japanese cuisine — also a bonus
  • A desire to learn, grow, and build on your qualifications in Commercial Cookery
  • A collaborative attitude and willingness to be part of a supportive team environment
