About the role

The Confraternity of Christian Doctrine (CCD) Faith Educator plays a pivotal role in supporting and overseeing the implementation of CCD programs across deaneries and parishes. Reporting directly to the Manager of CCD, this individual is responsible for ensuring that Catholic religious education initiatives are carried out effectively and in line with the mission and values of the Church.

Essential requirements

To be considered for this role, you should ideally meet the following essential requirements:

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Leadership & Liaison

  • Act as the primary point of contact between parish clergy, parish CCD coordinators and SRE catechists.
  • Maintain consistent and open communication with clergy within the diocese to ensure alignment and support for SRE initiatives
  • Lead initiatives to identify recruitment and support the initial and ongoing qualifications of catechists, providing ongoing support and training to ensure their professional and spiritual growth.
  • When appropriate, lead recruitment efforts at parishes, collaborating with clergy, Manager of CCD to ensure successful engagement and recruitment of catechists.

Training & Professional Learning

  • Ensure that SRE Catechists participate in all mandatory training to maintain accreditation and further their professional development.
  • Attend and actively contribute to professional learning and spiritual formation days to enhance personal growth and effectiveness in the role.
  • Chair meetings across deaneries and parishes each term to support, encourage, and foster communication with Clergy Parish Coordinators and SRE Catechists.
  • Participate in Parish Gathering Days, workshops, reflection days, and Diocesan CCD committees (e.g. CCD Diocesan Mass, Conferences) to stay connected with the wider community and strengthen CCD initiatives.

Parish & Community Engagement

  • Attend parish SRE meetings as needed to provide support, address concerns, and ensure alignment with diocesan guidelines
  • Foster and maintain strong relationships with parish groups through regular personal visits, phone and email communication, school visits, attendance at parish functions, SRE Masses, children's liturgies, recruitment drives, in-service sessions, and parent information sessions
  • When necessary, liaise with public school staff to address concerns or clarify the implementation of SRE procedures, ensuring smooth communication and effective delivery of SRE.

Qualifications & Competence

  • Appropriate tertiary qualification and/or relevant experience
  • Current Drivers License.
  • Current Working with Children Check Clearance.
