About the Role

Sheldon College is seeking an energetic, athlete-centred Assistant Swimming Coach to help deliver our Sheldon Academy of Sport program. This role suits someone who thrives on structured squad environments, cares about great technique, and enjoys guiding swimmers from Learn-to-Swim through to competitive pathways.

As a key member of the coaching team, you'll support the Head Coach to plan and run safe, effective sessions aligned to long-term athlete development, occasionally leading squads when required. You'll build positive relationships with students and families, record attendance and training notes, set up/pack down equipment, uphold Child Safety and WH&S standards, and provide on-deck support at school and club meets.

This role is Part-time or Casual, Term-time. Baseline of ~13.5 hours per week (five afternoons and one morning), with additional hours for carnivals and school holiday programs as needed.

About You

  • Minimum Swimming Australia Development Coach accreditation and/or AUSTSWIM Teacher of Swimming & Water Safety.
  • Blue Card (Working with Children) essential.
  • Current Pool Lifeguard (including CPR) and First Aid qualifications or ability and willingness to quickly obtain these
  • Demonstrated competitive swimming experience and/or experience in teaching or coaching swimming
  • Technique focused across all four strokes, with sound knowledge of starts, turns and race skills.
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to lead sessions independently when needed.
  • Comfortable with early mornings, afternoon blocks and occasional weekends for meets and carnivals.
  • Organised with basic administrative skills (attendance, session notes, equipment care and safety checks).
  • Strong WH&S and Child Safety mindset. Professional, positive and team-first.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assisting the Head Coach with the safe, effective delivery of training sessions
  • Commitment to learning and taking direction from the Head Coach
  • Leading training sessions in the absence of the Head Coach
  • Supporting athletes at school and club competitions as required
  • Communicating effectively with swimmers, parents and College staff
  • The effective use and care of equipment required for swimming activities
  • Accurately recording the attendance of all participants
  • Complying with all College and legislative Health & Safety policies and procedures
  • Ensuring behavioural standards are maintained and align with the College's 4C's of Courtesy, Consideration, Co-operation and Common Sense
  • Maintain high standards of dress and appearance, actively promote the College's values and adhere to the College Staff Code of Conduct.
