Primary objective
Under the direction of the Manager Drilling Services provide a water well drilling service at a high standard and in a safe and
efficient manner for the assessment, development and environmental protection of ground water resources throughout the
Northern Territory.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Operate the Department's drilling rig on a day-to-day basis for the drilling, construction, rehabilitation, and test pumping of
groundwater resources, including during the absence of the Drilling Supervisor.
2. Ensure daily/weekly maintenance programs for the drilling rig and associated equipment are adhered to, to provide efficient
and long-term operation of the department's assets.
3. Maintain progressive drill logs, strata encountered, aquifer depths and conditions, water quality and volumes.
4. Train Drilling Assistants on-site in the operation of the drilling equipment along with the use of various drilling tools and
materials.
5. Maintain work health and safety responsibilities at the drilling /test site.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. A Certificate in Groundwater Technology or relevant qualification awarded by an Australian institution, or equivalent, or
extensive experience in the water well drilling industry.
2. A current Class 1 Water Well Driller's Licence, or sufficient drilling time and experience in order to obtain.
3. Demonstrated appropriate interpersonal, organisational, supervisory and training skills to establish and encourage a safe and
efficient team and work environment.
4. Mechanical aptitude and basic computer skills.
5. Current NT Drivers Licence, Multi Combination level; or Heavy Rigid for a minimum of 12 months with the experience and
capability to obtain a Multi Combination Licence.
6. Proven ability to be physically able to perform the duties of the role, including arduous field work and maintaining positive
working relationships in remote locations for continuous periods of up to 6 weeks.
Desirable
1. A current Class 2 Water Well Driller's Licence.
2. An appropriate trade or technical competency certificate.
3. Hold a current First Aid Certificate or ability to obtain.
