Get to Know Us

At Biodiversity Australia, we're dedicated to creating sustainable solutions that allow people and the environment to thrive together. As an Indigenous-owned environmental management consultancy, we specialise in protecting biodiversity and supporting sustainable development through innovative, science-based approaches.

Our work spans diverse landscapes and sectors — from managing wildlife hazards at major airports to delivering vegetation, fauna, and biosecurity solutions across Australia. In the aviation sector, our mission is to protect lives and aircraft by balancing aviation safety with environmental sustainability.

We're proud to be leading some of the most significant environmental and aviation safety programs in the country. By working across Defence, government, and civil aviation, we help shape a future where aviation safety, biodiversity conservation, and economic growth go hand in hand.

At our core, we're guided by our values of Integrity, Teamwork, Safety, Client Success, and Indigenous Pathways. These principles drive every project we deliver and the legacy we aim to create.

Join us in protecting Australia's skies — where your expertise contributes to safer aviation operations and the preservation of our unique ecosystems.

What you'll own:
  • Develop, write, and maintain Wildlife Hazard Management Plans (WHMPs) in alignment with CASA Part 139 MOS and ICAO Annex 14 standards.
  • Conduct wildlife risk assessments, habitat evaluations, and species identification to support airport and Defence operations.
  • Collaborate closely with aviation clients to develop site-specific strategies that manage wildlife strike risk while ensuring environmental compliance.
  • Undertake field surveys, data analysis, and trend reporting using GIS and wildlife observation systems.
  • Provide technical advice to airport operators and Defence stakeholders on wildlife hazard management and ecological mitigation measures.
  • Support the Aviation Ecology team with ecological assessments, biodiversity management, and regulatory reporting.
  • Assist in the preparation of tenders, proposals, and client briefings, contributing to the growth of Biodiversity Australia's Aviation Division.
  • Participate in cross-functional projects involving fauna relocation, vegetation control, and habitat restoration on and around aerodromes.
  • Ensure all work is delivered in accordance with WHS standards, environmental legislation, and ISO-certified quality systems.
Why you're a good match:
  • Tertiary qualification in Ecology, Environmental Science, Wildlife Biology, or Natural Resource Management (or equivalent).
  • Minimum 3–5 years' experience in ecology, preferably with exposure to aviation, Defence, or high-risk infrastructure environments.
  • Demonstrated experience in technical report writing, including WHMPs, ecological assessments, and compliance reporting.
  • Understanding of aviation safety and wildlife hazard management principles, including regulatory frameworks (CASA, ICAO).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with proficiency in GIS and data interpretation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate ecological findings into practical management solutions.
  • Current driver's licence, White Card, and First Aid Certificate (or willingness to obtain).
  • Willingness to travel to regional and Defence aerodromes across Australia.
  • A passion for integrating aviation safety, ecology, and conservation outcomes.
