Ruminant Biotech (RBT) is a New Zealand based early-stage Ag-biotech company on a mission to solve the global challenge of methane emissions from ruminant livestock. Our breakthrough slow-release platform technology achieves sustained methane knockdown in cattle, offering a game-changing solution for pasture-based livestock farming systems worldwide.
With strong competitive positioning and a clear pathway to commercialisation in 2025, we are seeking a visionary Head of Research & Innovation to lead our global technology strategy and help deliver on our mission
Position SummaryReporting directly to the CEO, the Head of Research & Innovation will lead cross-functional teams across product and animal research, laboratory operations, and field trials. You'll drive the scientific strategy, oversee evidence-based product development, and foster a culture of innovation, excellence, and collaboration.

Responsibilities· Set, drive and execute RBT's overarching research and product innovation strategy.
· Motivate and manage the entire R&I organisation, leading a team of skilled professionals with a clear vision and direction.
· Oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of key research and development milestones, including product design, validation, approval and registration.
· Collaborate with cross-functional regulatory, commercial, and IP teams to support product development and protect new discoveries.
· Manage key external research and innovation partners.
· Develop and manage R&I budgets.
Qualifications & Experience· Postgraduate qualifications (MSc, PhD, or equivalent) in animal science, veterinary science, or related fields.
· Proven leadership in regulated R&D environments (CMC, GMP).
· Experience in product development and market delivery, ideally with controlled drug delivery systems.
· Strong collaboration and stakeholder management skills.
· Background in biotech, animal health, or pharma; start-up experience is a bonus.
