Position Summary
Tangentyere Council Aboriginal Corporation (TCAC) is a community controlled Public Benevo-lent Institution delivering human services and social enterprise activities for the benefit of Aborig-inal people from the Alice Springs Town Camps, urban Alice Springs, and Central Australia.
The Tangentyere Men's Behaviour Change Program (MBCP) aims to work towards the safety, well-being, human rights and dignity of women, children and others affected by men's use of violence. It incorporates Element Four of the Northern Territory's Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence Reduction Framework Safe, Respected and Free from Violence and is one of the five key components of the Northern Territory Government ten-year plan to reduce the impact of domestic, family, and sexual violence in our community.
The MBCP offers a groupwork model and space for men who use violence and abuse in their intimate rela-tionships. Our work with men is part of an integrated response, including contact with partners and ex-partners through Women's Safety Services of Central Australia (WoSSCA).
MBCPs have three central aims:
1. Increase the safety of women and children
2. Monitor risk through an integrated response
3. Support men to make change and stop using violence
The successful candidate will be highly motivated with excellent communication skills and is committed to reducing violence against women and children in Central Australia. They will build relationships with men individually and in a group setting to support them in making nonviolent choices. They will engage with stakeholders as part of an integrated response MBCP to keep men in view and continually monitor risk.
As part of your role, you will work with children, people with a disability and vulnerable people. You are al-ways obligated to ensure their safety and report any concerns in line with our duty of care obligations. We have zero tolerance when it comes to abuse of any kind and will take disciplinary action, including and up to termination of employment, should we determine that abuse has taken place or there has been a failure to report any suspected or alleged abuse.
Responsibilities
• Ensure women and their children's safety is a core priority of Men's Behaviour Change program through collaboration with Women's Safety Services of Central Australia (WoSSCA).
• Co-facilitate Men's Behaviour Change groups and conduct individual sessions to promote accountability for men who have used intimate partner violence.
• Build rapport and maintain engagement with participants while ensuring the program remains accessible and culturally safe.
• Conduct intake and risk assessments for men who have been referred to the program.
• Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential documentation, including risk assessments and detailed case notes, in accordance with legal, ethical, and organisational standards.
• Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with NT Police, Courts, and Community Corrections to enhance an integrated response to Domestic, Family, and Sexual Violence.
• Participate in integrated service responses such as the Co-Responder Model, Family Safety Framework and Domestic Violence Specialist Court where required.
• Assist with achieving quality management objectives across the organisation.
• Assist with achieving safeguarding objectives across the organisation.
• Assist with achieving compliance objectives across the organisation.
• Other reasonable duties as required.
Qualifications and Selection Criteria
Required
• Completed tertiary studies in Social Work, Welfare Studies, Psychology, or a related experience.
• Demonstrated understanding and commitment to a gendered analysis of men's use of family and do-mestic violence.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability positively to engage with men who have used violence in their intimate relationships.
• Demonstrated ability in ethical and professional judgement regarding risk and safety for women, children and men attached to the MBCP.
• Develop and maintain strong stakeholder relationships with Northern Territory Police, Alice Springs Local Court, Community Corrections and other relevant organisations.
• Demonstrated ability to perform intake, risk assessment, and group facilitation to a high standard.
• The ability to engage with Central Australian Aboriginal people and other diverse clients.
• Demonstrated strong administration skills.
• Current NT Drivers Licence, NT Working with Children (Ochre) Card, satisfactory Police Check, and proof of full (3) vaccination against COVID-19.
Desirable
• Demonstrated delivery skills in a family violence program.
• Demonstrated experience facilitating relevant group work.
• Program experience working with Aboriginal Men in Central Australia.
• Current First Aid Certificate, or ability and willingness to attain.
• An understanding of Aboriginal culture and a broad range of contemporary issues affecting Central Aus-tralian Aboriginal people.
