Currently, there are around 5.5 million Australians with a disability. The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) implements the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), which is one of the biggest social reforms in the country since Medicare. As an Agency, we support more than 717,000 participants with a significant and permanent disability, and the families and carers of those living with disability. For many Australians, this will be the first time they receive the disability support they need. The NDIA is designed to enhance the quality of life and increase economic and social participation for people with disability and will mean a peace of mind for every Australian.
A new role awaitsThe Disability Supports Team (DST) is a specialised function within the Office of Agency Accessibility and Inclusion (OAAI), dedicated to supporting APS employees with disability across the NDIA. The team provides tailored, individualised services that enable staff to perform their roles effectively and confidently.
This position provides detailed technical, professional, policy, and operational advice in relation to complex and sensitive matters. The role contributes to strategic planning, project delivery, and policy development that supports the NDIA's objective to build a world-leading National Disability Insurance Scheme.
- Affirmative Measures – This job is open ONLY for people with disability. The affirmative measure position is to improve employment opportunities for people with disability in the Australian Public Service. To be part of the affirmative measures employment process applicants must be able to provide evidence of their disability at the offer stage.
The Disability Liaison Officer works collaboratively with employees, managers, and enabling services to ensure workplace adjustments are identified, assessed, and implemented effectively.
Key responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to:
- Providing expert advice and support on workplace adjustments, access, and inclusion.
- Interpreting and applying legislation, policy, agreements, and guidelines to recommend tailored solutions.
- Case management and record-keeping skills, including maintaining accurate documentation, tracking issues through resolution, and ensuring compliance with relevant policies and procedures.
- Coordinating and monitoring workplace assessments and the implementation of adjustments and supports.
- Acting as a pathway for employees to access professional services for workplace assessments.
- Liaising with internal stakeholders (e.g. ICT, Property, HR) and external providers to broker and deliver adjustments.
- Supporting new starters with disability during onboarding to ensure timely implementation of supports.
- Educating and guiding people leaders to build disability confidence and inclusive leadership capability.
- Establishing and maintaining professional relationships built on trust, transparency, and respect.
As an ideal candidate you will be a skilled and adaptable professional who brings technical expertise, strategic insight, and a strong commitment to inclusion. You thrive in a collaborative environment and are confident working independently to deliver high-quality outcomes.
You are also highly organised and understand the importance of accurate and confidential record keeping. You manage cases using a structured, case management approach—documenting interactions, tracking progress, and ensuring timely follow-up. Your ability to maintain clear and consistent records supports transparency, accountability, and continuity of service.
You are passionate about accessibility and inclusion, and bring a proactive, solutions-focused mindset to your work. Your ability to build trust, communicate effectively, and navigate sensitive issues makes you a valued partner to employees and managers alike.

We welcome and support each other and encourage different ideas, insights and opinions. We empower and enable each other to be our best. We collaborate, connect and work together to create a workplace that makes us proud. And while we're based far and wide across the country, we make sure nobody feels they are out on their own.
- You will work for a socially inclusive and culturally diverse workplace, that is making a meaningful impact to the lives of more than 717,000 Australians.
- Access to higher superannuation and above market leave entitlements
- Competitive remuneration and working conditions that support a positive work life balance
