Cook

We currently are seeking a Cook to join our team in a part time position. Applicants must be prepared to work all shifts, including weekends. The role has the potential to lead into a permanent position for the right person.

This position plays an essential role in providing catering services to the residents within Narrogin Cottage Homes (NCH). The primary purpose is to provide a high standard of catering services to the residents with NCH and performs food practice in accordance with all associated food, health and safety regulations in addition to the policies and procedures of NCH.

The role of Cook ensures that at all times, catering services provided to residents within the facility are carried out in a manner that supports their health, wellbeing and dietary requirements.

Catering and Food Service Duties:

• Prepare, cook, and present daily meals as instructed.
• Serve meals and refreshments to residents in a friendly, timely, and appropriate manner.
• Liaise with residents to determine food preferences and requests.
• Undertake general food preparation and catering support tasks.
• Maintain high standards of cleanliness in the kitchen and dining areas
• Adhere to IDDSI principles for food texture and fluid consistency.

Compliance and Safety:

• Follow food safety standards and HACCP principles.
• Comply with food catering and preparation regulations (Food Safety Plan).
• Maintain infection control protocols and environmental health & safety regulations.
• Ensure a safe working environment and report WHS issues as required.
• Maintain accurate cleaning and temperature records.
• Stay updated on relevant legislation and regulatory obligations.

Resident Support Duties:

• Support senior staff in gathering resident nutritional assessment information for care planning.

The ideal candidate will have previous experience as a Cook, preferably supported by a Certificate III in Commercial Cookery. Knowledge of catering within the aged care sector, along with a strong understanding of industry-specific policies and general catering procedures, is highly desirable. A current National Police Clearance is required, or applicants must be willing to obtain one promptly.

• General understanding of infection control principles in a catering environment.
• Well-developed time management skills.
• Demonstrated personal values of empathy with the aged, integrity, justice, respect, compassion and excellence to elderly people particularly those with dementia.
• Good English written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently when unsupervised.
• Excellent personal standards of presentation and personal hygiene.
• Ability to establish rapport with residents, suppliers and co-workers.
• Have Australian residency or Citizenship.
