We have a current opportunity for a
Computer Systems Science, Autonomy & Robotics Engineers
, on a contract basis within the Defence sector. These roles are based in
Sydney, NSW
. The contract is for an
initial 8 month period, with possible extension options
.

Start: circa 31 October 2025

Skill Set: Level 1 - 5 Specialist Engineering - Computer Systems Science, and Maritime Autonomy & Robotics

The Engineers will be responsible for, but not limited to the following duties:

  • Review and provide simulation scenario configurations.
  • Conducting initial data collection using integrated hardware and software simulation systems.
  • Planning work packages.
  • Producing design documentation and diagrams related to software libraries.
  • Design, implementation and testing of User Interface features used for simulation scenario design.
  • Development and testing of initial software library and components.
  • Design, implementation and test of software components used for data analysis and processing.
  • Provide automated development & test configurations used for continuous development and integration.
  • Develop and test a second iteration of the software library and components.
  • Planning and design activities required for integration of newly developed software libraries and components.
  • Integration of simulation systems with systems from other partners (during field/sea trials).
  • Collection of data using partners' simulation systems, delivery of post-trial reports.
  • Uplift of software components, including Vehicle Autonomy and other ROS related modules.
  • Provision of baselined software packages, including user guides and documentation.
  • Report on evaluation and validation of simulation data, metrics and indices.
  • Report on project outcomes and recommendations for future work.

Minimum mandatory requirements:

  • AGSVA Security clearance
  • Working knowledge of naval platform systems and contemporary software engineering tools, to assist with the further development of integrated simulator for maritime autonomy capability
  • Ability to adapt, integrate, and extend autonomy systems for autonomous underwater vehicles and related sensing, navigation and communication systems
  • Ability to test and assess these systems during both sea trials and simulations
  • Skills and experience in the areas of: software engineering, modelling and simulation, C++ and Python programming languages, Robotic Operating System (ROS) middleware, Combat Systems simulation, Deployable Defence Geospatial Systems and Defence Geospatial Dissemination System
  • Ability to use industry-standard development techniques to maintain and extend software developed on the ROS 2 - Gazebo robotic software framework.
