Arts and Culture Coordinator

Kurruru, meaning 'circle' in local Kaurna language, is one of Australia's leading Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youth performing arts companies committed to supporting the ongoing maintenance of culture, community and identity.

The Arts and Culture Coordinator position for the Kurruru program reports to the Manager, Community Impact & Delivery on creating and implementing the artistic program for Kura Yerlo Inc.

The Arts and Culture Coordinator will be responsible for the coordination of the Kurruru Youth Performing Arts program:

• Creation and production of small-medium cultural performance events
• Development and implementation of structured performing and visual arts skills workshops including term and school holiday programs.
• Provision of support to staff and management on arts focused cultural matters.
• Advocacy for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youth arts and community cultural development practice, on local, state and federal levels.
• Active engagement with youth, families, Elders and community to develop, deliver and promote the artistic workshop program.
• Provision of forward event planning in line with state and national dates of significance.
• In conjunction with the leadership team, contracting of artistic personnel to assist in the delivery of the artistic program.
• Administration and maintenance of the Kurruru social media platforms.
• Participate in group and individual supervision meetings adopting a readiness for reflective thinking and openness for constructive feedback.
• Participate in performance appraisal processes.
• Model Kura Yerlo values and associated behaviours within the organisation and across external stakeholders.
• Maintain positive relationships with management and all staff, reporting relevant issues and contributing to a professional and harmonious workplace.
• Maintain compliance with all organisational policies and procedures.
• Development of effective communication and marketing and development strategies for the program.
• Establishment, development and maintenance of networks, partnerships and collaborations with local government, community, philanthropy and the business community to attract financial or in-kind support for the organisation.
• Provision of artistic input to funding submissions and preparation of acquittals in cooperation with the Manager, Community Impact and Delivery.
• Participation in professional development and training to enhance the skills and knowledge of artistic and organisational areas of the position.
• Involvement in the development and delivery of appropriate cultural and/or arts-based training where needed.

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

• Possess cultural awareness and sensitivity and respects cultural differences.
• Proven experience and understanding of a participatory, supportive and empowerment-based style of facilitating small and large groups across a diverse range of audiences including young people, children and their families.
• Ability to moderate group dynamics and negotiate potentially volatile and sensitive environments.
• Ability to manage projects, monitor own workload, pay attention to details and ensure all work tasks are completed in accordance with assigned portfolio and funding arrangements.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a highly culturally diverse team.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers.
• Excellent computer proficiency (MS Office – Word, Excel and Outlook)
• Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service
• Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices.

Special Conditions:

• A minimum qualification of Certificate IV in Youth Work or Arts or are actively working towards completion.
• Confidence and understanding of cultural safety when working with Aboriginal Communities and their Families.
• Current and valid South Australian Drivers (unrestricted), appropriate vehicle and full comprehensive car insurance.
• Knowledge of or certification of Safe Environments – Through Their Eyes training.
• Current HLTAID011 Provide first aid certificate.
• Current NDIS Worker Check and National Criminal History Record Check prior to and throughout employment, to be updated five yearly.
• Attendance at out of hours meetings training and service functions may be required (Awarded/Agreement remuneration / conditions apply).
