Austal is delivering multiple naval shipbuilding and sustainment programs for the Royal Australian Navy, Australian Border Force, and the Department of Defence, employing approximately 1,000 people in facilities in located Western Australia, Queensland, and the Northern Territory.
Austal has entered into a landmark Strategic Shipbuilding Agreement (SSA) with the Commonwealth of Australia, launching a new era of continuous naval shipbuilding within the Henderson Defence Precinct and across Western Australia. As Australia's Strategic Shipbuilder, Austal will start by delivering eighteen Landing Craft Medium and eight Landing Craft Heavy vessels for the Australian Army.
The SSA will drive significant growth across our industry and workforce, as we deliver existing and future programs under a long-term partnership. Through effective collaboration with our supply chain partners, Austal is driving innovation, developing sovereign capability, and creating lasting opportunities for Australian industry and workers.
To support this growth, we are building a highly skilled team to engage with local industry and supply chains, and contribute to complex, large-scale projects that reflect Austal's proven capabilities and trusted performance.
About the role
The Plumber is required to complete all facets of plumbing works (including general tasks) on time, in full and to standard, while striving for continuous improvement. The Plumber is responsible for keeping themselves and their colleagues safe as well as maintaining a clean, tidy, and productive work environment.
Key objectives & responsibilities include:
Conducting plumbing (or general) tasks as directed IAW supplied Work Pack / Job Tickets.
Completing works within the required time frames and, if unachievable, informing Supervisor immediately.
- Inspection, analysis and recording of critical measurements, data, or information during the process of undertaking works.
- Understanding, accepting, carrying, and completing the task in full.
- Ownership and respect for tools and equipment.
- Improve the task (initiate improvement)
- During periods of reduced trade specific works, assist in other trade-based sectors of the business as reasonably directed.
- Negotiating and agreeing to a time, improving, and delivering on the agreed time.
- Understand, implement, and comply with all Austal Policies and Procedures relating to HSEQ.
- Hold self and workmates accountable to HSEQ standards.
- Ensuring good housekeeping is practiced.
- Holding self and others accountable to the standards and improving them.
- Reduce waste in all its forms.
Required Skills / Experience / Attributes:
- Hold a Construction safety induction (white card).
- Licenses – Forklift / Confined Space / EWP
- First Aid Certificate
- Previous experience in Defence / Government.
- Trade Qualification – Certificate III Plumbing and current plumber's licence
- Demonstrated experience in marine refit / repair or heavy industrial.
- High Risk Works – confined space / working at heights.
- Capable of performing work in a safe and acceptable manner.
- Demonstrate adequate theoretical knowledge.
- Ability to use standard tools and equipment related to the trade.
- Possess good time management skills and ability to meet set targets.
