Opendoor Ltd (formerly WCIG) is an established, not for profit organisation that is committed to creating practical responses to unemployment and disadvantage across Melbourne and Geelong.
Our Transition to Work (TtW) program provides tailored employment and education support to young people aged 15-24, who are at risk of long-term unemployment in the North-Western Melbourne Metropolitan and Barwon Employment Regions. Our TtW team works towards the same, purpose-led goal of improving lives through dignity and choice.
We have an opportunity for a Youth Coach to join us on a permanent full-time basis, located in Broadmeadows. You must be flexible to work offsite if required, as there will be outreach in the North-Western suburbs of Melbourne.
Previous experience working with young people is preferred.Prior experience in employment services and working with a caseload is not essential but will be highly regarded.

The role:
- As a Youth Employment Consultant, you are responsible for introducing young people to a range of career opportunities, providing work placements and helping young people transition into education and/or employment
- Work closely with the TtW team to support young people in your caseload, using a strengths-based approach to develop their skills and become job ready by providing flexible and tailored assistance, including pre-employment and vocational support
- Identify and address any non-vocational barriers to employment young people may have through collaboration with community support services
- Provide support and mentoring around job search activities, apprenticeships, internships and training
- Conduct candidate sourcing activities through direct approach and advertisements, and execute attraction strategies and initiatives
- Actively source employment opportunities from our combined employer network and generate new leads
- Your driven nature will ensure you meet and exceed your targets by placing participants into employment, while adhering to contract guidelines for service delivery
- Provide ongoing post-employment support to both the employer and young person to maintain your job placements
- Be adaptable and responsive to community and key stakeholder needs
About you:
- Must have OR be committed to completing a Certificate IV or above in one of the following disciplines within the first 12 months after commencement: Youth Services, Social Work, Counselling, Psychology, Community services.
- Current driver's licence and Working with Children's Check card (or ability to obtain one prior to commencement) is essential
- Prior experience working with young people and/or within the employment services sector is preferred although not essential
- Experience in working with young people from CALD and/or Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander backgrounds will be highly regarded
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills are crucial for developing and strengthening relationships with new and existing employers
- Knowledge and understanding of issues that affect young people's engagement with education and employment
- Demonstrated ability to meet and exceed KPIs
- You must have a passion for improving young people's lives through the creation of opportunities
