Role Overview*
Gympie Regional Council has an exciting opportunity for a suitably skilled spray operator for a full-time fixed term position for approx 2 years, September 2027.
To assist the Biosecurity Section to achieve and maintain sustainable land use through weeds control work and maintenance-spraying of roadside infrastructure across the region as directed by reducing the economic, social and environmental impacts of invasive plants through appropriate control work on the natural, peri-urban and primary production environments.
To undertake this work in accordance with relevant legislative requirements, including the Biosecurity Act 2014, and Council Policy.
To carry out this work in locations including State and Local Government Road networks, Council controlled and managed reserves and waterways, Council facilities and private property.
What we are looking for
Council is seeking an experienced and skilled spray operator, with a current ACDC licence (or the ability to obtain prior to commencement), to join our Biosecurity team as a full-time team member.
A person with demonstrated experience and knowledge of integrated best practice vegetation control methods including herbicide application, manual control methods, along with experience and knowledge of environmental factors influencing herbicide selection will do well in this role.
To be considered, applicants will have:
- A current and maintained Queensland 'C' class driver's licence.
- A current and maintained Agricultural Chemicals Distribution Control (ACDC) Licence. (or the ability to obtain prior to commencement)
- Queensland Traffic Management Implementation card (or the ability to obtain prior to commencement)
- First Aid Certification (or the ability to obtain)
- Construction Industry White/Blue card
- Demonstrated experience and knowledge of integrated best practice vegetation control methods including herbicide application and manual control methods.
- Demonstrated experience and knowledge of factors influencing herbicide selection.
- Demonstrated experience and knowledge of the storage, calibration and data collection requirements of chemicals, in accordance with relevant legislation.
- Demonstrated knowledge of state 'general biosecurity obligations' (GBO).
- Demonstrated ability to work safely in a range of environments and conditions, including remotely, in thick vegetation areas, and/or from a boat.
Candidates with knowledge of invasive species specific to the Gympie region, and their control methods, will be highly regarded. Similarly, candidates with 4WD driving and recovery training certification, basic vehicle and machinery maintenance knowledge will also be highly regarded.
Candidates who possess a QLD MR Drivers Licence (or the ability to obtain) would be considered favourably.
