This role works across council to monitor compliance with relevant local laws, conduct inspections, investigate possible violations and designs and delivers education programs and campaigns aimed at raising awareness for the protection of our natural and built environments.

What You'll Do:

As an Environmental Ranger, you will play a crucial role in protecting and preserving our natural resources. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Investigate Non-Compliance: Investigate matters relating to non-compliance with council's environmental local laws, policies, and other relevant regulations, including unauthorised vehicle access, storage of goods on public land, illegal structures on public land, vegetation damage, street tree damage, illegal dumping, and waste management incidents.
  • Lead Environmental Initiatives: Lead environmental protection initiatives aimed at improvingenvironmental outcomes whilst encouraging compliance with local laws and other regulations.
  • Collect Evidence: Collect evidence and prepare investigation reports for legal actions undertaken within council's local laws.
  • Liaise with Stakeholders: Liaise with internal staff, stakeholder groups, and residents regarding compliance and enforcement of local laws relating to the natural environment.
  • Additional Responsibilities: Other responsibilities as delegated by your immediate supervisor within the scope of this position.

What We're Looking For:

We need someone with:

  • Interpersonal Skills: Well-developed interpersonal skills, including the ability to build rapport and effective working relationships, and communicate appropriately both verbally and in writing.
  • Conflict Resolution: Well-developed skills in conflict resolution and dealing with difficult people.
  • Investigative Skills: Sound investigative skills.
  • Time Management: Well-developed time management skills, including the ability to set team and individual operational priorities, schedule resources, and organise work.
  • Data Collection: Well-developed survey and collection of data skills, including the ability to carry out inspections.
  • Computer Skills: Sound computer operation skills with the ability to use corporate systems and Microsoft Office products.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Thorough knowledge of relevant Acts, Regulations, Local Laws, and policies pertaining to Parks and Reserves.
  • Environmental Advocacy: Experience in working to protect and advocate for the environment.
  • Compliance Experience: Experience in a regulatory compliance role.
  • Driver's License: A QLD "C" Class Driver's License or interstate equivalent (must be transferred to QLD within three months of commencement).

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Qualification in environment protection or related field.
  • Qualification in a regulatory compliance role.
