The work area
The Procurement Policy and Strategy business unit is responsible for a whole of government approach to procurement policy including administration of the Procurement Act, procurement systems and intelligence as well as whole of government common use arrangements and assurance functions that efficiently meet the business needs of government agencies, manage risks and deliver value for money.
The Department of Treasury and Finance currently operates under two sets of organisational values, following its formation on 1 July 2025. The values of clarity, empathy, growth and collaboration continue to guide everything we do in Procurement Policy and Strategy. In time, as we settle in our new structure and culture, we will collaboratively develop a unified set of values that represent who we are as the Department of Treasury and Finance.
The role
The Procurement Capability Officer focuses on supporting the development of significant whole of government or strategic capability building initiatives across all streams of procurement. The role coordinates the design and delivery of capability initiatives that support the objectives of the Department of Treasury and Finance (DTF) and, leads research and stakeholder engagement across DTF and the broader sector to inform capability development strategies.
The position operates in Personal Leadership context. This means that you are required to demonstrate personal accountability for delivering excellence and support your team and agency in delivering strategic goals. You will be expected to build and nurture relationships and be willing to seek feedback and learn.
The ideal candidate
We are looking for someone – is it you? – with strong research, analytical and problem solving skills, you'll be a clear communicator who can build and maintain effective working relationships, which is important as our work often involves people both within and outside the department.
You'll be well-organised and able to manage a diverse, high-volume workload. Most of all you will be keen to join a team of committed people, who are passionate about advancing procurement professionalisation in the public sector and helping the procurement workforce deliver better outcomes for the Western Australian community.
Familiarity with procurement or experience in capability building initiatives will be advantageous.
