About the Role

We are looking for a suitably qualified Project Engineer who will be responsible for supporting the delivery of safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible dredging solutions that are critical to maintaining and enhancing our waterways and sensitive marine ecosystems.  Based at Port Adelaide and working on variety of local and regional projects, you will be providing onsite technical assistance and guidance, collaborating closely with our field teams, Project Managers and technical specialists, to ensure projects are completed safely, sustainably, on time and within budget.

As a key member of a multidisciplinary and expert team, you will play a critical role in the delivery of complex dredging operations and be responsible for applying sound engineering principles and methodologies to optimise dredging processes, innovate and pivot, improve operational efficiency, enhance safety protocols and manage environmental risk. Our Project Engineer will play a crucial role in environmental stewardship and remediation, with a major focus being managing the impact on sensitive environments such as seagrass meadows, through impact minimization during planning and adaptive management during construction.

Key Responsibilities will Include:

  • Collaborate with Project Managers, Site Supervisors, stakeholders and field teams to develop project schedules, budgets and resource allocations to ensure all project deliverables, deadlines and milestones are met.
  • Prepare detailed project management plans, safety plans and environmental plans and collaborate with Site Supervisors to ensure adherence to plans and compliance with any statutory or client requirements.
  • Management of subcontractors including obtaining quotes and detailing and directing scope of works.
  • Conduct site assessments and contribute to the development of dredging plans that align with project specifications and environmental regulations.
  • Optimise dredging engineering methodologies and equipment selection and operation, by contributing to the design and analysis of dredging systems and equipment and identifying areas for enhancement and efficiency.
  • Monitor dredging operations, conduct risk assessments and collaboratively develop risk mitigation strategies to address potential safety, operational or environmental challenges during dredging operations.
  • Analyse data and prepare detailed reports on operations and dredging activities, equipment performance and project status, for senior management, stakeholders and regulatory agencies.
  • Site preparation, mobilisation and site surveys, including assisting with the preparation of AutoCAD drawings for the project.

About You

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in either Engineering (e.g. Civil, Environmental, Structural Mechanical, Marine) or related field.
  • 5+ years' project-based experience in either civil construction works, dredging engineering, marine engineering or a related field, with a proven track record of successful project execution.
  • Either technical experience on dredging projects or a demonstrated understanding of dredging technologies, sediment management and environmental regulations.
  • Experience collaborating and interfacing with multi-disciplinary teams on civil construction or dredging engineering projects.

Technical Skills:

  • Knowledge of and commitment to safety in the workplace and environmental responsibility.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical systems and hydraulics, especially as they relate to dredging equipment.
  • Advanced use of MS Office suite or project management software.
  • Proficient with all engineering site paperwork, specifications, reporting, safety and quality documentation.
  • Interpretation of engineering plans including survey data and knowledge in Geo-positioning software and equipment, contamination and geotechnical investigation reports, water quality monitoring.
