The Role

The ABC is looking for a reporter join the team in western Queensland, based in Longreach.

Journalists in this region deliver news for local and national ABC radio but also have time to develop the skills needed to film and present video stories for ABC 7PM news, News Channel and Landline as well as producing digital stories for Australia's most popular news website.

Many of the ABC's most successful reporters have cut their teeth in this part of the world.

You will work under the direction of the Western Queensland Editor and will have access to some of the best editorial training in Australia.

The Job

  • Find and tell compelling stories that reflect the unique character of western Queensland
  • Prepare and produce compelling audio, video, digital and social media stories for local and national audiences
  • Build a strong rapport with local community leaders and engage with stakeholders on behalf of the ABC
  • Demonstrate initiative and bring creative ideas to your work
  • This is a Schedule B, Band 3-4 role attracting a base salary of $74K-$90K plus 15.4% ABC nominated super
  • This role attracts an Isolated Locations Allowance, shift penalties and leave loading as per the ABC Enterprise Agreement

You have genuine curiosity of regional stories and will have a strong understanding of issues important to local audiences.

You'll Have

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent skills and experience
  • Creative approach to content creation with strong live presentation and broadcast skills
  • Accomplished editorial judgment with ability to source, analyse, and verify information
  • Passion for telling stories that reflect Australia's diversity
  • Ability to build and maintain contacts across Australia
  • Possession of a current and valid Driver's Licence.
  • Willingness and flexibility to travel to regional and remote locations.
