My client is seeking an experienced Mechanical / Piping Design Engineer to join their team on an initial 12 month contract, working on sustaining capital projects.

About the role

Reporting to the Engineering Manager and Project Manager, you will play a key role in delivering technical input across studies and project execution. This role goes beyond design – we're looking for someone who can add value throughout the project lifecycle, including proposals, technical scopes, and ongoing project support.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver mechanical and piping design across multiple sustaining capital projects.
  • Develop designs for stackers, crushers, conveyors, chutes, wet & dry plants, and hydraulics.
  • Contribute to proposals, scope development, and continuous design improvements.
  • Work closely with the project team to ensure designs are fit-for-purpose, practical, and meet client expectations.

Requirements

  • Mechanical Engineering degree recognised by Engineers Australia with proven design engineering experience.
  • Strong mix of mechanical and piping design experience.
  • Previous exposure to mining sustaining capital projects, ideally Rio Tinto sites.
  • Ability to work across studies as well as detailed design and execution.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to provide value-add input beyond design.
