About the Role
You are a Senior Mental Health Clinician (Allied Health OT & SW) who brings extensive experience in providing support to consumers from an intensive home and community based, Recovery orientated practice
- Provide senior clinical oversight and mentorship to junior case managers, supporting consumers with complex needs
- Attend senior clinical leadership meetings to support the effective functioning of services, particularly within the Hawthorn Clinic. Support the MST manager in to oversee daily operations at times when the Team leader is not available.
- Foster strong therapeutic alliances with consumers and actively involve them, along with their family/carers/supporters, in comprehensive care planning and evaluation processes.
- Conduct thorough assessments, deliver targeted interventions, and provide treatment for individuals with intricate mental health needs, aligning practices with local policies and strategic directions.
- Contribute significantly to primary, secondary, and tertiary consultation services, actively engaging in community development, education, and establishing effective liaisons with other supportive agencies.
- Ensure strict compliance with activity-based funding requirements, diligently recording daily contacts, phase of care, outcome measures, and any ICD10 diagnoses
Classifications for this position will range from:
- OT/SW Grade 3 YB24 - YB27 or YC46 - YC49 ($101,597 - $116,074 per annum pro rata)
Your Contribution
- A minimum of 7 years post qualification clinical experience desired within Mental Health
- Registration with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (OT)
- Completion of undergraduate Degree in Occupational Therapy OR Masters of Clinical Practice in Occupational Therapy. Social Workers - An approved degree in Social Work (by the AASW) and eligibility for full membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers. International Social Workers will need to be able to provide evidence of their assessment of international qualifications from the AASW (inclusive of the reference number).
- Current Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check, or willing to obtain

LOCAL WORK ENVIRONMENTSt. Vincent's Mental Health (SVMH) includes an adult area mental health service for the inner-city areas of Yarra and Boroondara. The Adult Mental Health service components are: The Footbridge Community Care Unit (CCU), a 44 bed Acute Inpatient Service (AIS) located on the St. Vincent's Hospital Fitzroy Campus, the North Fitzroy PARC and two community mental health services (CMHS) at Hawthorn and East Melbourne (Clarendon CMHS) consisting of Continuing Care (CCT), Mobile Support and Treatment Service (MSTS) and Homeless Outreach (CHOPS) services, Psychiatric Triage and Crisis Assessment and Treatment (CAT) service, Police, Ambulance and Clinical Response (PACER), ED Mental Health, Extended Triage and The Primary Intervention Care Team (PICT), Hospital Outreach Post Suicide Engagement (HOPE), Supporting Tenants at Yarra Housing Project (STAY).
A Consultation & Liaison Service is provided to the general health service. NEXUS Dual Diagnosis Service, the Body Image and Eating Disorders Assessment and Treatment Service (BETRS) are regional services. State-wide services include the Victorian Dual Disability Service and the Victorian Transcultural Mental Health. The Acute Inpatient Service includes 5 beds designated as the Koori State-wide Inpatient Service and linked to and supported by the Victorian Aboriginal Health Service.
St Vincent's Mental Health is committed the recruitment and retention of high-quality staff. The service aims to support staff to maintain and develop their skills to provide excellent clinical care and to meet their own personal and career goals. SVMH has a strong education and research focus in addition to affiliations with a number of universities and educational institutions. All SVMH clinical staff are expected to be familiar, and practice in a manner consistent with the National Practice Standards for the Mental Health Workforce.
POSITION PURPOSEUnder the guidance and support of the Multidisciplinary Team, you will deliver exceptional clinical treatment and support to individuals with serious mental illnesses. Managing a case load, your role extends beyond clinical responsibilities to actively cultivate and sustain collaborative partnerships with various internal and external service providers. As a senior you will also provide support to junior staff in developing core clinical skills and knowledge in case management.
The Mobile Support and Treatment Service operates seven days a week, with extended hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays, offering intensive home and community-based recovery-oriented services. As a senior Clinician you will be working Monday to Friday hours. Targeting individuals with complex mental health needs, the multidisciplinary team employs the Strengths Model of Recovery-Oriented Practice, focusing on holistic and community-centred support.
POSITION DUTIES- Empowering Recovery: Implement the Strengths Model to support individuals by focusing on their abilities and resilience, helping them thrive throughout their recovery process.
- Therapeutic Alliances and Family Involvement: Build strong therapeutic relationships with consumers and involve family, carers, and other supporters in care planning and evaluation to ensure a holistic and inclusive approach to treatment.
- Comprehensive Assessments and Interventions: Conduct detailed assessments and provide targeted interventions for individuals with complex mental health needs, aligning with local policies and strategic frameworks.
- Community Engagement and Consultation: Contribute to primary, secondary, and tertiary consultations, while actively engaging in community development, education, and fostering effective collaborations with other agencies.
- Professional Development and Training: Commit to continuous professional growth by actively participating in discipline-specific meetings and training, ensuring up-to-date clinical knowledge and practices.
- High Clinical Standards and Professional Conduct: Maintain a high standard of clinical care and professional ethics, prioritizing the well-being and satisfaction of all consumers.
- Participate in service-wide clinical improvement projects.
- Multidisciplinary Team Collaboration: Work closely with multidisciplinary teams, ensuring an integrated approach to consumer care and supporting other care partners for comprehensive treatment delivery.
- Supervision and Learning Environment: Provide professional supervision to staff and students, promoting a culture of continuous learning and development in line with discipline regulations.
- Documentation and Compliance: Ensure accurate documentation in clinical records, outcome measures, and Client Management Interface (CMI) reporting. Strictly adhere to activity-based funding requirements, including recording daily contacts, phases of care, and outcome measures.
- Senior Clinical Guidance: Offer senior clinical oversight and mentorship to junior case managers, especially within Mobile Support and Treatment Services, catering to consumers with complex needs.
- Service-Wide Care Planning: Develop and implement comprehensive care plans for complex cases within the mental health program, contributing to the overall service delivery model.
- Leadership and Service Delivery: Attend senior clinical leadership meetings to support the effective functioning of services, particularly within the Hawthorn Clinic. Support the MST manager in to oversee daily operations at times when the Team leader is not available.
- Perform any other duties that fit within the employee's scope of practice as a senior clinician.
- Completion of undergraduate Degree in Occupational Therapy OR Masters of Clinical Practice in Occupational Therapy. - Minimum 7 years post graduate mental health experience
- OT's Current registration with AHPRA, with no current undertakings
- Experience in developing and evaluating programs
- Strong leadership qualities
- Current National criminal history check, or willing to obtain
- Driver's license
- Demonstrated ability to facilitate team outcomes in a multidisciplinary environment
- Demonstrated ability to assist and support change
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with consumers and staff at all levels
- Knowledge of and commitment to Continuous Quality Improvement
- Demonstrated commitment to ongoing education and professional development
- Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, including problem solving ability and conflict resolution skills, as well as sound oral and writing skills.
