Avon Community Services is a not-for-profit charity that has proudly served Wheatbelt communities for almost 40 years with dedicated youth centres, programs and services. We are passionate about providing opportunities and supporting local young people to meet their needs and aspirations.

About the role

As a Trainee Youth Worker you will:

  • Support the day-to-day operations of the youth centre in line with Avon Community Services' policies and procedures, including child safe standards, confidentiality, and health and safety requirements.
  • Provide basic mentoring and practical support to young people.
  • With training, support the delivery of sessions on topics such as: social and emotional wellbeing; the impacts of alcohol, other drugs, smoking and vaping; sexual health; connection to country and life skills.
  • Contribute to developing and maintaining positive relationships with community organisations, government agencies, and schools to support referrals, advocacy, and collaborative projects.
  • Participate in planning and helping to deliver engaging activities and programs for young people using a strengths-based and youth participation approach.
  • Assist in maintaining accurate and confidential client information, including forms, attendance records, and activity notes.
  • Learn to meet Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and contribute to reporting requirements under guidance.

About you

  • You identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander under Section 50D of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984 (WA).
  • You are willing and committed to undertaking a Certificate IV in Youth Work through an approved Registered Training Organisation (RTO).
  • You are interested in supporting young people to build confidence, make positive choices, and connect with culture and community.
  • You can work as part of a team, follow direction, and contribute to a positive, respectful, and inclusive workplace.

You have

  • good verbal communication skills and a friendly, approachable manner when engaging with young people, families, and community members.
  • demonstrated reliability, willingness to learn, and ability to follow organisational policies and procedures.
  • basic computer literacy and a willingness to develop written and digital skills required for the role.
  • an understanding of the importance of cultural safety, confidentiality, and maintaining professional boundaries when working with young people.

Successful candidates must be able to obtain and maintain a current National Police Clearance, Working With Children Check, First Aid Certificate. A Drivers' Licence is desirable.
