Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced and driven Engineering Manager – SATCOM to lead our engineering team, mentor junior staff, and drive technical excellence across projects. This role will be instrumental in shaping engineering processes, implementing best practices, and ensuring the successful delivery of complex SATCOM systems.

Key Responsibilities


• Lead and manage a multidisciplinary engineering team focused on RF and SATCOM systems.


• Provide technical oversight and support across all phases of project delivery—from concept through to commissioning.


• Mentor and develop junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and innovation.


• Draft, implement, and maintain engineering processes, standards, and documentation frameworks.


• Champion best practices in systems engineering, design reviews, testing, and quality assurance.


• Collaborate with project managers and stakeholders to align engineering deliverables with customer requirements and timelines.


• Support proposal development and technical input for defence and commercial bids.


• Ensure compliance with relevant standards including ASDEFCON, MIL-STD, and ISO.


• Drive continuous improvement initiatives across engineering workflows and tools.

Required Qualifications & Experience


• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, Systems Engineering, or related field.


• Minimum 8 years of experience in SATCOM or RF engineering, with at least 3 years in a leadership or management role.


• Proven experience mentoring and developing engineering talent.


• Strong understanding of satellite communications systems, RF design, and systems integration.


• Experience drafting and implementing engineering processes and technical documentation.


• Familiarity with ASDEFCON documentation and defence project lifecycle.


• Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder engagement skills.


• Ability to obtain or currently hold an Australian Government Security Clearance

• Experience working on ADF or defence-related SATCOM projects.


• Knowledge of IP networking, cybersecurity, and secure communications.


• Exposure to Agile or systems engineering methodologies.


• Project management certification (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2) is a plus.
