About the role:

The Specialist, Payroll Services is responsible for leading a team responsible for providing payroll, benefits and salary packaging services to the University. We are seeking a detailed-orientated and experienced person to lead, supervise and guide a highly capable team to deliver quality advisory and administration services to stakeholders at all levels within the University, ensuring the processes are continually improved and align to best practice.

As a Specialist, Payroll Services, you will:

  • Act as a coach and work with team members to facilitate growth and development by giving balanced, constructive feedback considering individual capability and team performance, in alignment with Deakin's code of conduct and core university strategies and polices that promote a safe, sustainable and productive working environment.
  • Ensure the delivery of payroll services, including payroll tax, reconciliations, clearing accounts, superannuation, salary sacrifice and management of international payroll.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, coaching and support to team members in order to facilitate a positive work environment and to ensure role clarity and operational delivery through appropriate workload distribution.
  • Foster and encourage a proactive, customer service focused culture in line with service standard and respond to queries or concerns raised regarding the service delivery of the team using a pragmatic and collaborative approach to solving problems.


To be successful, you'll have:

  • Postgraduate qualifications or progress towards postgraduate qualifications and extensive relevant experience; or
  • Extensive experience and management expertise; or
  • An equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
