Debt Recovery Paralegal

Join a high-performing legal and collections team supporting ethical and efficient debt recovery. Francom is experiencing rapid growth, and we are expanding our legal team in Parramatta.

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Debt Recovery Paralegal to play a vital role in managing the legal processes associated with recovering outstanding debts, while ensuring compliance with all regulatory obligations and professional standards.

This role is full-time, 9:00am to 5:30pm, based in Parramatta, NSW.

Key Responsibilities

  • Organise and maintain legal department files and matter records.
  • Manage court and matter diaries, including litigation deadlines and hearing dates.
  • Draft written communications, including emails, formal letters, and legal notices.
  • Conduct legal research (case law, procedural rules, legislative updates).
  • Draft and prepare court documents (Statements of Claim, affidavits, default judgment applications, enforcement proceedings).
  • Gather and prepare supporting evidence for legal proceedings.
  • Assist in all stages of the debt recovery litigation process, including:

  • Drafting and filing court documents.

  • Liaising with debtors, courts, external counsel, and opposing solicitors.
  • Coordinating process servers for timely service of documents.
  • Making calls to courts, legal representatives, and third parties.

  • Maintain legal precedents and update internal procedural resources.

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory frameworks, including:

  • ACCC & ASIC Debt Collection Guidelines

  • Privacy Act 1988 (Cth)
  • National Consumer Credit Protection Act 2009 (Cth)
  • Australian Solicitors Conduct Rules (where applicable)
  • Relevant civil procedure rules across jurisdictions.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Previous paralegal or legal assistant experience in debt recovery is desirable, but not essential.
  • Second or third-year law student (full-time availability preferred).
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously with strong attention to detail.
  • Research and drafting skills, with sound knowledge of Online Registry and legal research platforms (desirable).
  • Excellent organisational and multitasking abilities.
  • A team player with high levels of discretion, integrity, and commitment to company standards.
  • Initiative and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
